"I am beyond frustrated with the appalling service provided. I paid £210 and followed every single instruction to the letter, including using the specific labels provided.
It has now been two months, and nobody seems to have the slightest clue where my samples are or what has happened to my results. The communication is, frankly, a joke. I’ve been stuck in a loop receiving the same canned email responses over and over again, with zero actual information or resolution.
It feels like I’ve essentially thrown £210 into a black hole. Save yourself the headache and the money—avoid this lot at all costs. Utterly unprofessional."

Inaccurate DNA Relative Matching and Repeated Dismissal of Concern
UPDATE IN RESPONSE TO EMBARK'S REPLY:
Embark's response here says they are sorry the relatives are "not aligned with my predictions." This framing is telling. My concern was never about predictions. It was about statistical impossibility. A street dog from Mexico with a highly mixed, non-pedigree background showing 100% Boxer relatives with zero variation is not a matter of expectation, it is a data integrity issue. The fact that they continue to reframe it this way, both here and in their BBB response, shows a pattern of deflection rather than accountability.
I have now escalated this to the Better Business Bureau. Their response there was identical in substance to this one. No technical explanation, no acknowledgment of a potential issue, no offer to retest or refund. Just a suggestion to email them again.
I am still waiting for a real answer. Until then, I would encourage anyone considering an Embark test to think about what kind of support you will receive if you have a legitimate question about your results.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
I purchased an Embark DNA test for my dog. He was rescued from the streets of Mexico and is correctly identified as an American Village Dog based on his background.
My concern is with the genetic relative matching results. Every single relative shown for my dog is listed as a Boxer. There is no variation at all in the results, which is not believable given that my dog is an American Village Dog with a highly mixed, non-pedigree street origin.
I have raised this issue with Embark multiple times. Instead of providing a clear or technical explanation, my concern has repeatedly been brushed off. After days of review, I was simply told that everything is "fine," without any meaningful breakdown of how these results are being determined or why every match would be the same breed.
It is not reasonable that a dog from a diverse street population in Mexico would only show Boxer relatives. I have not received a proper explanation or acknowledgement of this issue despite multiple attempts to resolve it.

I have rescued a dog I need a dna test…
I have rescued a dog I need a dna test for. It’s in a shelter. You would think embark have empathy but no.
I need a dna test for this dog to be able to bring it home to my country where I am currently at.
They got my address wrong five times! And I still don’t have the test! I send them the address then they send the invoice back with the wrong address- FIVE TIMES! While now 2 weeks in my dog is still in a shelter! Not only is it costing me money they are literally wasting my time! How is it even possible to be this dumb to be honest?!
How is it hard to put in an address correctly? And then I asked for a place to complain and then they copy paste an old email where they ask me to wait 5-10 days for a refund and order via the website - which I did once and there was also an issue with getting the address correct. This is absurd!!! By now they should have sent me the test at their own cost!
Thanks for nothing BRIAN A AND JONAVY!
Amateurs!

I’m extremely disappointed with my…
I’m extremely disappointed with my experience using Embark’s dog DNA test.
I purchased this test expecting accurate and reliable insight into my dog’s breed, but the results I received did not align with her physical traits or known background. While I understand that no test is perfect, the level of confidence presented in the report did not match what I would consider a trustworthy outcome.
I requested a refund due to my dissatisfaction, but it was denied solely because the test had already been completed.
For a product that markets itself on precision and reliability, I expected a higher level of accountability and customer care.
Overall, this experience left me feeling like customer satisfaction is not a priority. I would not recommend this test based on both the results and how my concerns were handled.

Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service—if you can even call it that. No phone service, just snarky responses via chat. Hate this lack of service for a service I paid for, ridiculous. Really unacceptable.

My shelter dog is not 100% anything...
Results took 5 weeks longer than promised. They claim my shelter dog is 100% standard poodle. She has wavy (not curly) hair and weighs about 25lbs, not a standard poodle (I believe the shelter was closer with their mini-doodle prediction). I shared this concern with the company and they recommended I purchase another test to retest her. Frustrating, I feel absolutely ripped off.
Response from Embark VeterinaryApr 14, 2026
Hi Mindy,
Thanks for sharing your Embark experience. We're sorry for any upset from our DNA test results not matching predictions.
Our team reviewed the results and can confirm they are consistent with the DNA markers of the dogs in our reference panel. If you have any other questions about the results, please let us know at [email protected] and we are happy to discuss the results further.
Thanks,

The process takes three times longer…
The process takes three times longer than if you bought the same kit at your veterinarian’s office. Do not use the service. The reviews on their website are not accurate because there is no place on their website to leave a review. Trust me, I searched for a long time and then asked the person from customer support where I could leave a review… and she disconnected the chat immediately
Response from Embark VeterinaryMar 26, 2026
Hi Nancy,
Thanks for your message and for your feedback about the results timeline! Breed mix results take 2 to 4 weeks from when the returning package has been received. We will keep you updated as your swab continues through processing!
Our reviews are all from real customers! We will send you a survey once your results are processed. Customer service chats have a satisfaction survey sent immediately after the conversation ends. We're sorry for any upset regarding the interaction and we will make sure this is reviewed.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions at [email protected]!
Thanks,
