Embark Customer Service Agents
I contacted Embark regarding an ownership issue involving Reggie’s existing DNA results. I have the login and password but they only use magic link now which is registered to an ex's email. Despite having legal documentation establishing my ownership of him, I have been unable to access his genetic information because the account remains under a ex-spouse who does not own the Dog who we have had no contact for many years. Embark is still investigating the matter, and I understand that certain policies and procedures may need to be followed. However, what I cannot understand or excuse is the complete lack of sensitivity demonstrated by the initial customer service representative. After repeatedly explaining that my pet had passed away, the representative suggested that I simply purchase another DNA test kit. I cannot begin to describe how incredibly hurtful, thoughtless, and inappropriate that response was. How exactly am I supposed to administer another DNA test to my deceased dog? I had already made it abundantly clear, multiple times, that he was gone. Having to repeatedly remind a customer service representative that my pet is dead, only to receive a suggestion that is physically impossible, is beyond insensitive. It demonstrates either a complete failure to read and comprehend my messages or a disturbing lack of empathy toward grieving pet owners. I am not asking Embark for anything for free. I have even offered to pay the equivalent cost of a new DNA kit simply to obtain Reggie's existing genetic information. I am desperately trying to preserve a piece of my son's history that I can never recreate now that he is gone. Instead of receiving compassionate, thoughtful assistance, I have been left feeling even more devastated by an already heartbreaking situation. I recognize that Embark is continuing to investigate the ownership issue, and I am not criticizing the company..yet simply because a resolution has not yet been reached. My complaint concerns the manner in which I was treated and the apparent lack of basic understanding and compassion shown during my initial interaction. A company whose entire business revolves around people's beloved animals should understand that these animals are family. When a grieving owner tells you that their dog has died, the appropriate response is not to suggest purchasing another test kit. I sincerely hope Embark provides its representatives with better training in empathy, active listening, and bereavement-sensitive communication. No grieving pet parent should have to endure an interaction like this while desperately trying to hold on to the memories of a family member they have lost. We deserve better And so do the families who trust this company with their pets' genetic histories.
