It's pretty apparent that the windows retail activation keys are not sold directly from Microsoft but even when I ran into an issue that the troubleshooting guide did not fix, they were still willing to send me a new code which did end up activating my Windows installation. Don't expect a Windows first-party experience but don't assume it's just a scam. A business is still a business.

First key did not work, and had to contact support for another key. IT took them several hours to get back with me but they replaced my key with another key. Second key worked just fine.
