SLOW service, persistent sales, money-hungry, and poor communication with the pharmacy
When I first inquired with Defy Medical, I started receiving phone calls and emails on a daily basis. I was still researching, so I wasn't ready to talk to anyone. The constant calling and emailing created the impression that Defy Medical prioritized patients and worked quickly. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Once you are a patient, they take their sweet time, no matter how much you are suffering. I was able to book my initial consult quickly. During the consult, I was told appointments were two weeks out. However, I was not allowed to book an appointment until after I completed my $250 labwork and received an appointment invite email. When I finally received the email, I learned that the earliest available appointment was nearly a month away. I was already $250 invested, so I made the appointment. The one positive experience I had with Defy Medical was that the nurse practitioner Beth was extremely thorough and explained my lab results very well. She listened to my concerns and answered all of my questions. I have no complaints there. They provide prescriptions through Empower Pharmacy. I noticed on the website in Empower Pharmacy's photos of compounded medication that the capsules were brightly colored. As a person with multiple sensitivities, I cannot consume chemical dyes. I requested clear capsules in writing when I placed my order, and I followed up with a phone call to make sure. I was assured the pharmacy would receive the message. I had to wait a week for my order, even with overnight shipping. When I finally received it, all but one of my prescriptions came in colored capsules. When I called to complain, they wouldn't give me a refund and allow me to have the prescription fulfilled at a local pharmacy. They assured me that they would prioritize my order, as my symptoms are severe, and I need the medication ASAP. It has been almost a week, and I still haven't received my correct prescription. When I called, I was told the order was expedited, but this does not seem to make a difference in the time frame. I also learned that the prescription medications in question are available in various dosages over the counter, but Defy Medical never advised me of this despite my complaint that I was suffering severe quality of life issues without my prescriptions, and I couldn't work. I was also never advised that I could have had the prescription filled at my local compounding pharmacy instead of paying for overnight shipping and waiting a week for my order, followed by a second week-long wait for it to be corrected. To make matters worse, when I requested a printable invoice so I could file an insurance claim, they tried to charge me $19 for the invoice! It seems to me that if a company is going to work so hard at recruiting patients, it should make sure it has the capacity to provide the same prompt service patients experience during the recruitment process. And I find it unreasonable to have to pay for billing information. The ONLY reason I'm not giving them a 1-star review is that the nurse practitioner Beth was a shining light in the midst of all these delays and difficulties. If I can find another provider that will prescribe the medications I need, I plan to do that.
