I accessed couchsurfing for obvious reasons. Once I created an account I was inundated daily with inappropriate request for donations. In order to access the service I agree to donate $18. The next day Couchsurfing emptied my account, literally. I've reported to the credit card company and the authorities. Beware: Do not share your credit card information with fraudsters.

Since they introduce fee the service is really bad. They cutted off the community, so they treat people to pay for nothing, really bad at the moment!

Joining CS was one of the first things I did when I turned 18. Hospitality and culture sharing were the pillars of the website. I hosted and was hosted and met many lovely and interesting people. Things started changing when CS became a profit corporation. Lately I am getting a lot of random texts from users that use CS as a sort of dating app. I find this inappropriate. And now the paywall. I cannot even delete my profile. This turned into a scam.

It used to be a good system 10years ago, now it turned into soulless business model. I used cs a lot, hosted a lot of people and also surfed at a lot of peoples couches. Over the years the soul was already dying until it is definitely dead now! Couchsurfing is blackmailing existing user by locking them out of their profiles from one day to the other. The only way you can get access is you need to pay their fee. Further they leave the profiles of the locked out users online to give the false impression that there are many active and welcoming users. They might be welcoming, but they can't even access their profile to reply you. Once you pay for cs and try to find host you soon will feel stupid as most of the profiles are abandoned and you never will get answers to your requests. I highly recommend not to join this platform, nobody knows what they will do next with you to get more money. They prevent to be social and just need money to cover their costs while the CEO drives a fancy car, has a boat and lets the employees work for minimum wage. It is more visible than ever, they don't care about the travelers, they just care about their bak-account.

As I cannot log in to just edit my profil without payment, I lost the faith in the CS company. It wouldn't be a problem if they had announced it, but refuse access to my account from one day to an other without leering me know is really bad. That is not the spirit from former times, the app is dying... Moved to Bewelcome as many others

I hosted dozens of people through CS and my guests were appreciative. Due to issues with financial transparency, disrespect towards users, misleading information on the website (you do not know whether a person you write to actually is able to respond), and potential use of users' data I no longer host through this platform and I moved to BeWelcome.org , where I am hosting. BeWelcome. is a non-profit rather than a C Corporation with management that does not even want to inform the users who are the owners of the website.

Just say no. I've moved to bewelcome and made great connections there

I've been a member of Couchsurfing since 2007 and in that period I've made hundreds of connections and put in allot of effort with those by taking the time to write thoughtful reviews to everyone I met, literally thousands of minutes of my time. Right now Couchsurfing closed up my access to that work I've put in and is holding it for ransom with pay for access or never see it again. And even if I was to put more energy into asking CS for access to my own information, which I refuse to do, I could still not get in contact with all those lovely people who are now in the same ransom situation as I am. I am enraged and disgusted at this cash-in on my work attempt.
