I ordered a trial box and the company signed me up for a subscription. This wasn't a checkbox I missed, I was very careful to make sure I wasn't signing up for anything. COMPLETE SCAM.

Best coffee tasting, easiest latte-making experience. A few years ago, I realized that I was in a fog for about 2 hours after my Nespresso. Did some Reddit-ing and learned about coffee pod mold and neurotoxicity (ps: Nespresso only makes 1 organic pod out of, like, ~36). I decided that my coffee purchases would only support people who source and process responsibly. Learned about Cometeer from Not Boring; was drawn to their mold mitigation and smallholder farmer relationships. I travel with a bunch of these in my bag. I've been a subscriber since 2022 and have made adjustments to my subscriptions without any issues. Thank you, Cometeer, and shout out to Packy McCormick/Not Boring for sharing a clean coffee solution!

I see I am not the only one. Received an email from a friend to “try” their coffee. It states just pay shipping and you will get our discovery kit. However, follow the premise of that offer and it will default you into an auto $90.00ish subscription. You have manually opt out of the default to just try the coffee as presented in the email. The coffee maybe good, but they are not a good business/company.

Hi Nolan, Sean here. I run Customer Experience at Cometeer. I took a look at your account and went ahead and refunded the unwanted order for you, so you should see that back on your original payment method soon. I’m sorry for the frustration here. The Discovery Box does have two options during checkout: a one-time purchase or a lower-priced option that enrolls you in the membership, which renews two weeks later with a larger box. That said, if the experience left you feeling misled, that’s on us to take seriously. I’ve shared feedback like yours with our product team so we can keep improving how this is presented. Feel free to reach me directly at [email protected] if there’s anything else I can do.

UPDATED: A friend sent me an opportunity to get a sample box for the cost of shipping. Coffee was delicious, however I just got a notice that I’ve been charged $95! For a subscription. I didn’t get any notifications. There was not any communication asking what I would like to subscribe to (light coffees, dark coffees, regions etc.) and no heads up that the subscription was starting. Just an email saying my order was confirmed. Not even on the level about what I had ordered or paid. Had to click on the link to find that out. The coffee is delicious and is perfect for that afternoon cup. But just be aware of the subscription if you're doing the sampler pack. (I was provided a refund when I connected with customer service and appreciate the sincere response)

Hi Stephen, Sean here. I run Customer Experience at Cometeer. First, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the coffee, but I’m sorry the follow-up order caught you by surprise. I took a look at your account and went ahead and refunded the $95 order, so you should see that back on your original payment method shortly. For a bit of context, the free Discovery Box offer covers the coffee itself while customers just pay shipping. During checkout it also enrolls you in the membership, which renews about two weeks later with a larger shipment. That information is noted during checkout, but if the experience left you feeling like it wasn’t clear enough, that’s important feedback and something we take seriously. If you need anything else or have questions, feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected] and I’m happy to help.

Highly duplicitous subscription practices that are designed to entrap customers. Avoid using this company and especially avoid signing up through any special offers/promos. Horrendous customer service that takes days to answer and then just responds with quotes from their FAQs rather than trying to resolve your issues.

I’m really sorry to hear this was your experience. That’s not the standard we aim for, especially when someone is reaching out for help. If you’re open to it, please email me directly at [email protected] so I can take a look at what happened and work to resolve it for you. I’m also happy to review the support interaction you mentioned. Quoting policy without actually helping someone move toward a solution isn’t the kind of experience we want customers to have. Regarding the offers you mentioned, some promotions do enroll customers in the membership during checkout, but that should always be clearly stated and easy to manage or cancel. If that didn’t feel clear in your case, that’s important feedback and something we want to learn from. If you’re willing, I’d appreciate the chance to make this right.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Can only contact through email which can take days and then the responses are incredibly unhelpful. Just responded with answers from website when I obviously needed more help than the FAQ.

I’m really sorry to hear that this was your takeaway from the experience. I took a look at your conversation and can see how frustrating the start of this order must have felt. There was a delay getting the shipment out, and then the box arrived in rough condition with the seal broken. That’s obviously not the experience we want anyone to have, especially around the holidays. From what I can see, our team did replace the shipment for you once we learned the package had likely been opened in transit, but I completely understand why the earlier delays and back-and-forth could have left you feeling like you weren’t getting the help you needed. If there’s anything that still wasn’t resolved or if you’d like me to personally review this further, feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected]. I’m always happy to take a second look and make sure things are handled properly. I also appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback. It helps us identify where the experience can improve.

I ordered a Discovery Box, and the package got lost in the mail. Which is ok, things happen. There is no way to contact customer support other than through email, which takes 1-3 business days to get a single reply. Support agent kept sharing the tracking link (that hasn't had any updates since the coffee was shipped 10 days ago), and refused issuing a refund. I even contacted the shipping company's customer support, and they confirmed the package was lost, but I still haven't gotten my refund.

Hey Ana, I’m really sorry to hear about this experience. If a package is confirmed lost in transit, you shouldn’t be stuck going back and forth without a clear resolution. That’s definitely not the experience we want for anyone trying our coffee for the first time. Please reach out to me directly at [email protected] so I can take a look at your order and make this right for you. I’m happy to personally review what happened and get this resolved. Appreciate you taking the time to share the feedback.
