Negative experience with Cars and Bids auction
It pains me a little to write this review because I sold a car on cars and bids last year and had a positive experience. But that’s primarily because I’m an honest person and went through the process in a transparent and upfront way, like I would expect other sellers to do. Unfortunately, I recently had a very poor experience with cars and bids on the buying end. I purchased a BMW M6 convertible in May 2024 and the condition of the car was (in my opinion) intentionally misrepresented on the auction. I paid market value for the car assuming it was in drivable condition, given the age, miles and description of the car on the auction. I shipped the car to Pennsylvania from Florida ($1,200) to a BMW dealership only to find out it needed $14,000 in deferred maintenance and repairs to even pass inspection. It didn’t even have a muffler on it, and the check engine light was on! That wasn’t disclosed in the auction. I reached out to cars and bids and they initially seemed like they were going to work to reach a reasonable resolution, but in the end they just sent me a boilerplate disclaimer and said there’s nothing they’re willing to do and it’s “buyer beware”.… I suggested at the very least they should offer to refund my $1,100 purchase fee. They said they would not do that, and offered a “goodwill” gesture of 50% of that fee.
In my opinion, they don’t do enough to make sure the sellers are representing their product accurately, and when the buyer gets “hoodwinked”, they do nothing to try to remedy the situation.
I don’t know how big the employee staff is at cars and bids, but after watching Doug Demuro on YouTube reviews for the last six or seven years, I would think he would be embarrassed and ashamed to know the clients on his website are having experiences like this with no effort on his company’s part to rectify situations like this.

Hi Tom,
We're sorry to hear that you're unsatisfied with your experience winning the M6 on Cars & Bids. Our post-auction team looked through your review and our notes.
As we shared with you via chat, our listing notes clearly state that the M6 may not pass emissions in all states due to the modifications to the car, and that it is the buyer's responsibility to perform all due diligence before placing a bid. Our post auction team reviewed the estimate your dealer provided in detail, and offered a goodwill credit of half of your buyer's fee. We offered this goodwill credit despite our very clear Terms of Use, bidding screens, and auction details that outline the bidder's responsibility to perform their due diligence before placing a bid.
We encourage you to contact the seller if you feel the car was substantially misrepresented, and to consider repairs from a qualified independent shop to help minimize any reconditioning costs you find necessary.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact us at [email protected].

C&B has the online auction experience…
C&B has the online auction experience down cold. The community is like-minded and that raises the level of trust over mass-market places like eBay. I have purchased multiple vehicles from C&B and eBay, and would choose C&B first.

Bottom-dollar Marketplace
They advertise their platform as the best place to get top dollar for enthusiast cars - but the offer i got from them a few months ago was about 70% of the car's DEALER trade-in value (yes, i took it in person to confirm & it was still thousands better than C&B). Not sure why anyone would waste even MORE of their time listing with them for LESS money...
Whole process was shady & I was disappointed to see the poor reviews become more credible. They do a great job at managing their PR, filtering out the bad reviews, which is why they SEEM to be such a pleasant experience.

Hi,
We're sorry to hear that you're dissatisfied with your experience on Cars & Bids. It sounds like you were unhappy with the reserve offer our valuation team provided, and may have a misunderstanding of what that reserve offer constitutes.
Reserves are your safety-net and absolute minimum you would sell the car for. This isn't the value your car is expected to sell for, as almost all of our auctions exceed reserve by a fair margin. A dealer trade-in price is their absolute maximum you will receive selling to them, while a reserve is the minimum you may receive when selling through an auction site.
With all of that said, there are often times where a reserve offer may be more conservative than a local dealer offer. Local dealers often have a buyer lined up immediately, or rely on national wholesale figures that are much slower moving than the actual market. Our valuation team is extremely skilled at measuring the market and assessing realistic reserve prices, as Cars & Bids boasts the strongest sale rate of all major online auction houses, over the course of more than 20,000 auctions.
Again, we're sorry to hear that you're unsatisfied with your experience on Cars & Bids, and hope that you consider us again in the future. We would be happy to review your specific submission in more detail, simply provide Trustpilot the email address associated with your Cars & Bids account or contact us at [email protected].

Best Car auction site. Don't listen to the Whiners!
They clearly deserve a lot more five stars. Only the pissed off people selling crap boxes asking for reserves cry here because they think their clapped out head-gasket-blown WRX is worth something.
I swear by Cars and Bids. I'm selling my FJ80 right now, and the communication with bidders and staff are the most professional people I've been in contact with.
Again, do not listen to the whiners. They belong in Facebook Marketplace, not cars and bids!

Really great experience
Like any auction site, ultimately your experience is probably going to come down to the seller. I was lucky to have a really great experience with mine. C&B does let you see sellers history so you will know how experienced or not yours is on the site. Be smart, ask questions and you’ll be fine.
