Don't wate your time or money on this service!!
I tried three times to use the care.com service. Paying the three-month service fee each time, plus the fee for using the background check service. It's not the cost of the service that's expensive, it's the cost of using the people who lie about the reasons for their employment and their ability to be employed. Allow me to explain: I'm a disabled woman with a condition that is deteriorating. I am attempting to find someone who will work into being a full-time live-in caregiver. I'm currently very independent and live on my own. I intend to continue to do so but will need someone to live in with me. So I have been attempting to find someone who I will be compatible with to be a live-in caregiver. Of course I'm not going to let someone move in immediately. I've been trying to find a part-time person in order to see if we would be compatible and once that is established then work into full-time and then if that works out be a live in, it only makes sense. But after spending thousands of dollars hiring people from care.com this is what I found; the people on this site lie about the reasons for their employment. They tell you what you want to hear in order to get as much money out of you as possible. They work for you as long as they can either physically/emotionally in a part-time status. After working for a while and getting comfortable woth me they let me know they are collecting disability and need to get paid cash and can only make a certain amount of money each year or they will lose their benefits their benefits. Every single one of them! Not only are the collecting disability but they need to get paid in cash under the table so they don't get caught. So they have to quit, stop working, before they make to much money. Working part time might work for some people but I need someone who will work into full time and I'm very honest in my ad. I let them know up front about what my needs are and what i am looking for in a caregiver. Knowing this they come to work for me telling me that they can fulfill the obligation knowing full well that they cannot. Not everyone was on disability ONE lady started working for me knowing she was only going to work for 2 months just enough time to get the money to go to her granddaughter's graduation in upstate New York. And she explained when she quit, without notice leaving me with no one to take me to my doctor appointments, her family was the first and foremost in her life and that's all that mattered to her. I heard her talking on the phone and called her on it, she was a senior citizen and I thought she was going to be the person who would stay with me until I was no longer here on this Earth, I thought I had found the right person, but I heard her on the phone saying "I almost have enough money and then I can quit"! I was shocked when I told her I heard her she said "okay you caught me, I was going to wait until the end of the week, but I might as well tell you now that I'm quitting" she said I have enough money now anyway. I began to cry, she could have cared less. I asked her to stay at least till I found someone else but she didn't. I had no one ti take me to my appointments and she didn't care. I was very good to her and paid her extra, always rounded up on the hours and even sent my massusse when she had a backache and paod to get her a massage. She had no loyalty, none of the people did! These people do not care about you, they do not care about anything accept money! All they care about is making as much money as they can off the books as possible. I have not found one person from care.com out of the dozens I've interviewed who was honest about the reasons for employemt. Several had mental health issues. One abondoned me during a short trip to my home town that we took for a family friends wedding, she let me know afterward that she had "gone off her meds" and appologized for her behavior! But she acted out in front of my family and friends and left me high and dry at the airport with my service dog at 11:30 at night with no way to get home. But she was not the only one. Another lady worked for me for almost 2 months before going "off her meds" and having a breakdown in my livingroom, one of her family members had to come and get her and had to have her committed! They left her car blocking my van for a week and while I tried to be patient with them I eventually had to threaten to have the vehicle towed in order to get them here to get to picked it up so I could move my own van! I felt bad for her but she should never had been working. Her mother called to appologize saying they thought she was "better". Its scary to think that I let someone so unstable into my home. She could have been very dangerous as I found out from her mother who asked me outright if she had become violent and if I would be filing charges! I felt lucky that nothing dangerous happened. Apparently she had a history of violence! All in all I hired almost a dozen people who worked for me this year from care.com, but none worked out, but not through my fault. They will tell you anything to get the job. I am a very good person and an excellent employer. But after spending at least $30,000 on my care this year I am still without someone to take care of me long term. I gave up on care.com I don't know where I'm going to turn from here but it will not be this agency. Although the background checks come out fine, the people don't have a record, and they didn't steal from me at least not in the literal sense, they did steal from me in the sense that they lied about their ability or willingness to work long term. This has cost me valuable time and money, both of which I am in short suppy! I strongly suggest that if your looking for someone to take care of you long term that is emotionaly amd physical stable look elsewhere because you probably won't find them at care.com, so don't waste your time or money!!
