App is easy to use and you can get seen quickly. How much you will owe for services is not transparent at all. You are told you are in network with providers but not how much out of pocket you will owe with insurance (was charged $150+ seeing the psychiatrist which I had to see every three months to get my prescription refilled). The mental health provider I was matched with was late each appointment and I was billed for an hour but only say her for 30minutes, she was unhelpful and just wanted to push medications to ask the psychiatrist about versus listening to me and helping me understand my issues and learn techniques to help. I was told to watch the Inside Out movie to learn about my emotions (I’m 29).

Thank you for your feedback. At Brightside Health, our services are covered by the insurance plans with which we are an in-network provider. Consequently, the invoiced amount is determined by a member’s health plan rather than by Brightside itself. We submit claims on behalf of our members to their insurance providers, and once these claims have been processed, members are charged for their portion of the cost share using the payment method on file. Please note that this processing can take several weeks. Depending on an individual’s specific insurance coverage, there may be copayments, deductibles, or coinsurance applied. While we strive to provide a good-faith estimate of potential cost-share responsibilities based on the information available to us, we always recommend that members contact their health insurance providers directly to verify their coverage. We understand the importance of having a positive interaction with one’s care team, and we sincerely apologize to anyone who did not have this experience. At Brightside, we take prescribing medication very seriously; we only do so when appropriate and after a thorough clinical review. To clarify, our psychiatric appointments are 30 minutes in duration. We are actively investigating the quality concerns raised and appreciate this being brought to our attention.

As a patient with Brightside for about 6 months, I have worked to try multiple dosages of medication and resolution. Though through many attempts, there has not seemed to be a change in my daily life. Brightside often does “check-ins” for you to tell them how you are doing. Though in many cases my evaluation numbers for depression and anxiety seemed to be inflated above what their chart considered normal, there is no follow up beyond this. These mental and emotional issues are not easy to live with, and when I do the evaluation I would expect follow up. Considering the fee associated with Brightside, it felt like more of a prescription mill rather than care from a doctor. There is no action on their end when your evaluation/check-in indicates that you are severely struggling.

We appreciate you sharing this feedback. We care deeply about our members and are committed to delivering personalized care that meets each person’s unique needs. Starting on a new medication can take some time to adjust to and be effective; we encourage members to reach out via their account portal if they feel their treatment is not working. We use regular check-ins as a way to monitor members’ progress; and, when evaluation scores indicate that someone is struggling, a member’s care team will reach out them to schedule a follow up when indicated. We appreciate the feedback regarding the timing of our follow-ups and will take this into consideration. Please contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to discuss further.

Extremely limited available with providers. Near impossible to reschedule an appointment if the provider cancels.

I am not a fan of the constant check ins. Emotions change throughout a month, and when honest about situational anxiety or depression, it alerts the involved party.

Doc recorded a missed meeting even though I showed up, rescheduling is a pain in the ass. Not being able to prescribe stimulants (even though there’s a federal exemption until the end of the year) is annoying and the whole reason I sought help in the first place.

My therapist sent me into a tail spin by judging me... not sure if she was joking, but after saying it 4 times in a row... I believed her... she said my daughter doesn't like/love me.

There were some billing issues - but nothing outside of normal insurance stuff. I have only done the medication part of the site because that is what my insurance will cover. The original session was pretty impersonal, painless and quick - but it was fine. I was able to ask questions and the provider was knowledgeable. The issue is that my medication issuing has been messy at best. I first got a low dose of medication to try out for a month or so. After that I had an appointment and we upped it to a low therapeutic dose. The issue is they didn't stop the original prescription and both perceptions were issued- which could definitely be an problem with certain medications. Currently, I have a 90 day supply of medication they can only prescribe every 5 months. My pharmacy tried to advocate, but Brightside told me that their system is not perfect and I would pay for another session to get it worked out. I have been without medication for 30 days and looks like I have to wait another month to get my prescription refilled. Another thing (not a reason that should stop you from using the service, but a major annoyance) They ask a questionnaire every two weeks about your mental health status. The choices to the frequency of feelings are - every day, almost every day, several days or never....aren't "almost everyday" and "several days" about the same thing? It is a small thing, but honestly makes it hard to answer. I am looking for another provider - it is safe to be constantly on and off medication due tho their system
