I’ve had two appointments now with a psychiatrist but nothing has happened. The first one was my initial visit which I was told the brightside team would review the notes from my appointment and get back with me but that was months ago and I was never contacted. I scheduled another appointment recently to see what was going on and I told the psychiatrist how I was feeling she simply said okay and that I should have been contacted after the first visit and I still have heard nothing. Complete waste of time.

Worse lying thieves you can sign up with. Promised appointment within 24hrs took my money for 48hr away appointment. Couldn't help me. Spent 5 minutes on phone. Promised refund. Then customer service says I booked appointment so no refund. I have to file a grievance form to get my money back. Still fighting with the woman in customer service. Will update with names and results.

Extremely deceiving and unclear about costs. Brightside told me my insurance would cover the appointments, then NEVER gave me a cost of what the appointment would be. I only got a bill for my first appointment, after I had already done my second appointment. If I had known a 5 minutes appointment would be $170 I never would have done the first one, and was never given any knowledge of this until Brightside had asked me to do my follow up appointment a month later. The second appointment was about two minutes long too. I never would have done either appointment if they were upfront about the costs, but they gave me the impression after collecting my info that my insurance would cover all of the appointments, and ended up charging me a huge amount for the shortest appointment ever.

The therapist was okay. Made some assumptions, and it led to feeling like we were going backward. We didn't really talk about stuff I wanted to work through that would have actually resolved long-term issues. And when I really needed to talk to someone after I had lost a good friend, there were no appointments on the calendar I could make. I was already fed up by this point and didn't feel like adding on more grief to the week. "No appointments available" happened multiple times. So the alternative was to book through a chat messaging system on the app. This led to digital lags, communication breakdowns, and a no-show charge when I wasn't 100% certain if an appointment was going to happen because there were no calendar notifications and I couldn't see appointments on the app. There was a text reminder what felt like 15 minutes before, and by that point I was just getting out of work and needing to commute home, which didn't give me any time to sign on and I didn't realize it had been confirmed. The same connection problems kept happening for a few months, and it added more stress than it resolved. It was not the fault of the therapist. It was the breakdown in how the app created obstacles and lacked clarity and confirmation.

I left Brightside feeling less safe than when I started My experience with Brightside psychiatric care was extremely upsetting. During roughly 60 days of treatment, I was prescribed or transitioned through six different psychiatric medications, with multiple dose and medication changes occurring within days of one another. Eventually I reached a point where I was simply asking for stability long enough to understand what was helping, what was causing side effects, and what my baseline even was anymore. My final appointment was with Mayra Koedam. I was not refusing medication or treatment. I was trying to advocate for slowing down the constant changes. Instead, I repeatedly felt talked over and was told I was being “defensive.” When discussing whether I personally felt my symptoms were improving, I answered as clearly as I could. Mayra repeatedly said she needed “more understanding,” while I kept explaining that I had already given her every explanation I had. I genuinely did not know what additional answer she expected me to produce about my own internal experience. The conversation became so uncomfortable that I finally stopped her and directly asked, “Would you agree that this is not a functioning professional relationship?” She agreed. Despite that, the appointment continued for approximately another 15 minutes. I left that appointment so distressed that I cried on and off for the following two days. I ultimately terminated my Brightside care entirely and returned to my previous psychiatrist. What makes this especially concerning is what happened afterward. When I gave my previous psychiatrist the complete medication history from my short time with Brightside, her response was essentially to stop changing things. She recommended keeping my current regimen stable for months so there would finally be enough time to understand how I was actually responding. That was what I had been asking for. Psychiatric patients should be able to say, “I do not feel better,” “this does not feel right,” or “there have been too many changes too quickly” without being treated as difficult or defensive. With the current Lindsay Clancy case bringing renewed attention to psychiatric prescribing and the importance of listening carefully to patients experiencing changes in their mental state, this experience has been particularly disturbing for me to reflect on. I went to Brightside looking for psychiatric care. I left feeling that my attempts to participate responsibly in that care were treated as a problem. I would not return, and based on my experience, I could not recommend Brightside psychiatric care or Mayra Koedam.

Absolute scam. They won’t treat ADHD without insurance and only disclose that in language buried in their T&Cs and in really tiny faded out font buried half way down a side page. Also, if you sign up for therapy and don’t use it it’s non-refundable. Keep that in mind if you are desperate enough to try these people.
