Coty A. B.
Loyal customer of 20 years treated like dirt in Knoxville, TN store by manager.
I have been a loyal customer of Books A Million for well over 20 years. Since I was in 3rd grade I have spent ALL my birthday money and gotten most of my Christmas gifts at Books A Million. With no exaggeration I have spent at least $30,000 there in the last 20 years. I have a lot of health problems and am constantly in the hospital so my only hobby is reading. Last night at the store on Kingston Pike in Knoxville, TN I was treated disgracefully by the Manager of the store. My mother was getting a lot of clearance Christmas items. As she was checking out the manager came up and told the cashier (she was so sweet and was nothing but professional) not to sell the items for the clearance price. They had come from a large display with clearance written on it!. I was carrying over $100 worth of books and magazines myself and I told Mom and the cashier that I wasn't getting any of them if they wouldn't honor their own display. I took my magazines back to the back and turned to leave and the Manager came from behind me and said loudly, "That's not where those go!" I turned to look and he started THROWING the magazines at the different racks. He was 25 feet away from one rack and was throwing the magazines as hard as he could. As he did this he was grunting and moaning like he was lifting weights or something. I was absolutely shocked. In all the years I have been going to Books A Million I have NEVER had an employee act in an unprofessional manner. Let alone it be the manager. I felt really bad for the young girl cashier. She was so embarrassed and was apologizing to us and everyone around. She didn't know what to say and was mortified at his behavior. Every time I have a treatment at the hospital I go to this Books A Million. So I am there on average 2-3 times a week and spend about $100 each time on books and especially history magazines. I will not be going back for quite some time and if I go in and he is working I will turn around and leave. Over the next few months this is going to cost this one store at least hundreds if not thousands of dollars in what I spend normally. This happened at a bad time for everyone because there are about a dozen new books coming out in the next couple months that I wanted to buy and each one is about $25 or $30 each. I have a gold lifetime membership card. My brother has been trying to get me to go a mile up the road for 15 years to Barnes and Noble. I hate to do that but right now it looks like they will be getting my business and thousand of dollars. If this manager stays at the Kingston Pike Books A Million I will happily give my hard earned money to Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and McKay's used books. I sincerely hope that something is done about this gentleman. For the sake of the other employees and the good name of the Books A Million company as a whole.
