Frustrating experience from an owner
I have had a property management company handling my rental home out of state for almost 2 years. I was getting the monthly emails with a link to the Owner's Portal to view my online statements every month until last October 2016. I realized in December that I hadn't received an email for 2 months, so I tried to log in with the same user name and password I've been using all along, and kept getting locked out because my password wasn't right. I have been clicking on the "Forgot Password" link and requesting an email to reset it and nothing is being sent to me. Not my inbox or my junk email. I have contacted the property management company twice now, the first time in December, to which I was told that the appfolio folk told her to tell me to make sure I'm using the correct email address and click the appfolio link........I'm not stupid, I promise, I'm doing it right. This is the response I got from my property manager: " Apparently our software company won't work directly with owners for security reasons. Below is the reply I received. > After reviewing our service portal, it does not appear any emails have been sent since 12/08. Which means that there has not been requested an email to reset their password. > Please make sure your owner is using the correct email and URL address and select forgot password from this page below." So, I can't access my owner's statements through the portal, I can't reset my password because the email link is going to god only knows where, and my property manager says they don't know how to fix the problem. Ridiculous that I, as an owner, can't contact Appfolio to see if they can help me with this issue. I can't wait to sell this home in the spring and be done with the whole thing. I will tell other homeowners to beware of any property management company using Appfolio software because if you have an issue resetting your password, you better hope someone in the office can figure it out because you certainly can't get any help from Appfolio directly. 03/09/17 Edited to add: I am happy to report that I did get an email from AppFolio to reset my password, and was able to finally log into my account. I added them to my whitelist in Outlook, and just like that I started getting emails from my property management company. I am living in a rental home at the moment and the property management company I'm leasing from also uses Appfolio and I am now getting emails from them as well. I would like to say thank you for the quick response from the AppFolio team to resolve the issue. I think it would be great to have an easier way to get help directly from AppFolio perhaps by email or chat but knowing the expense of additional employees may not be feasible at this time, then training of staff at companies who use the software might be more prudent. Had I not posted this review, I wouldn't have gotten a resolution because my property management company pretty much threw their hands up in the air and said there was nothing else they could do. I've updated my review to 3 stars. Thanks again, AppFolio.
Response from AppFolio Property ManagerMar 9, 2017
Hi Sheila, thank you for reaching out, we're sorry this has been your experience with AppFolio! We understand how frustrating it can be to be locked out of an account with no way to update your password. After looking into your situation further, it appears that your Outlook email account has blacklisted AppFolio from sending emails to you - meaning emails sent from AppFolio will not reach your account. We have tried many times to remove this blacklisting, but it often comes back due to Outlook's sensitive spam reporting. Our support team has manually removed the blacklist again and then initiated a forgotten password request on your behalf. This email is marked as "Queued to Deliver" to your email, please check your inbox and see if you have received an email with us. We hope this process will solve the issue, please let us know if you have not received the email. If you continue to experience this problem, we suggest requesting that AppFolio be whitelisted to your account, saving AppFolio's email address as a contact, or moving your email to a new browser (we know it is not ideal to change emails, but a browser such as google has more compatible spam reporting and we do not experience blacklisting trouble as often). Again, we are sorry that you were not able to receive the proper support for this sooner, we hope that your experience using AppFolio will be positive moving forward! [UPDATED 3/9]: Hi Sheila, we're glad that we were able to find a quick solution to the email troubles you were experiencing. Thank you for taking the time to update us on the progress and for updating your review. We hope your experience moving forward with AppFolio is a good one!
