About Ants on a Melon

Ants on a Melon (AOAM) is a small, independent company based in Springfield, Oregon that designs and hand-assembles modular LED light tools for flow artists, light painters, performers, and festival-goers around the world. Founded by Master Toymaker Joel Pinkham in 2012, AOAM blends artistry and technology to build gear that runs on one programmable platform. The core of the system is the RGB Critter BT, a color-changing flashlight that powers more than 200 twist-on tools and accessories. From that one light you can build fiber optic light whips (the BitWhip and Double BitWhip), light painting tools like blades and tubes, saber and staff kits, fiber optic costume lighting, and more. One light becomes a whole kit, so you carry less and spend less over time. The RGB Critter BT was named the number one RGB flashlight for light painting by Stephen Knight Photography and earned an Editor's Choice from Photofocus. With a small, passionate team, no outside investors, a 2-year warranty on Critter-powered kits, and real human support, AOAM focuses on thoughtful design, creative freedom, durability, and staying closely connected to the community that inspires it.

Converted from glofx forever.
Shipping was super fast. Quality is top notch. I've had my glofx whips for years, did a little research and decided to buy an AOAM whip. Love it. Still figuring out the app, I do wish it was a little more user friendly. I can't seem to program a custom rainbow. Probably user error. It also has a hard time connecting at times, it will say connection error even though it's connected. But even the preset settings are gorgeous. The 7ft head is amazing for body wrap which is mostly my flow style. I had both of my whips out at our last event and hands down the AOAM was more vibrant, flowed better and got so many remarks. I saw on videos its possible to toggle off the power button, still trying to figure that out as well. Overall, quality and function are top notch.

Thanks so much for the awesome review! 🙌 Stoked you’re loving the 7ft and the glow. For help with the app (custom rainbow, Bluetooth connection, power-button toggle), shoot us an email at [email protected] and we’ll get you dialed in fast. 💫

Hi Amber, I’m really sorry to hear that your experience with our shipping wasn’t helpful or clear — I completely understand how frustrating it can be when tracking doesn’t update for so long. Your order was shipped using our free UPS Mail Innovations service, which is a low-cost option that typically takes 2–4 weeks for delivery. Tracking often pauses while packages are in bulk transit, especially before leaving the U.S. or while clearing customs. I can assure you your order is still on the way, and we’ve been keeping an eye on the tracking from our end as well. We truly appreciate your patience and feedback — it helps us improve communication around this free shipping method for our international customers. Best regards, Indigo AOAM Support

2 "broken" critters , back to life!!
New Battery doors and battery troubleshooting helped my whips very much! Email and responses were timely. I originally emailed with concern and worry, and I was met with kindness and helpful information. I am more than satisfied with the AOM staff and their problem-solving skills considering I misnamed two items. Will be purchasing end caps to ensure critter safety! Thought I had the newest critter and realized I have the 1.0 and 2.0 , but will be keeping the type c charger for the next Critter I purchase. Am sad that the app is not compatible with my iPhone 11, but you get the same features if you are educated on how to program via buttons! The critter guides are downloadable and easy to navigate. Thank you again y'all!

So many color settings!
I'm obsessed!!! This whip is such a huge upgrade from the previous one I had. Being able to change and fully customize the colors on the app is amazing! Their customer service was also so responsive when I was trying to decide which fiber style to buy. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone who likes lights.
