I'm a beginner and have only been playing for 3 months. I played most everything at Guitar Center and even some guitars from Amazon (Yamaha, Seagull, Taylor). All good guitars but I was most concerned with playability. I saw the Zager online ads and the free shipping and 30-day trial seemed interesting. I tried a ZAD20 and ZAD50 and was impressed. I then tried a ZAD900 CE OM..and that was a mic-drop moment. No other guitar I've tried was that easy to play on my fingers. I owned a martin D-15 for 23 years. It was hard for me to play...so much so that every time I tried to start playing, I wound up quitting after a few weeks. The guitar went back into its case and under my bed. It was a high-quality, beautiful guitar but the wrong one for me. Had my first guitar lesson this week and my instructor and other employees at the music store were impressed with the Zager, particularly the binding, the woods, the neck and the playability. It's the playability that I love most. I can play for an hour and my fingers are not raw. The customer service is amazing. I wish I had found this guitar 23 years ago...better late than never. If something should happen to my ZAD900 I would go buy another one immediately. I think that says it all.

I recently purchased a ZAD900CE Sunburst guitar from Zager Guitars, and I could not be more pleased with the entire experience. I'm a beginner guitarist and I especially appreciated my correspondence with Dennis Jr. prior to my purchase, who, although pleased that I was set to purchase their top of the line model, was honest enough to reveal to me that they usually recommend their less expensive, 50 Series guitars for beginners, instead of automatically recommending I buy their most expensive model. Once I placed my order, Dennis rushed to get me my new guitar, even before they had sufficient supply of the additional accessories that came with it, to send along with the guitar, finding it more important to get the most important piece in my hands as quickly as possible even though they will incur additional expense for sending the other items later. As for the guitar, it is simply breathtaking both from a visual as well as from an auditory standpoint. Since its arrival I have had friends who have been playing guitar for decades tell me that not only is it stunning visually, but that the sound quality rivals that of the most expensive Martins and Taylors. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Dennis and his entire team at Zager Guitars. If I could give this guitar, as well as the team assembled to produce it 10 stars, I would.

First let me say that I had not heard of Zager Guitars until about 3 weeks before I purchased one, the EZ Play ZAD900. When it arrived I ROR this is a piece of art, not only an instrument. My other go to is a J45. I played them both off and on for a few weeks and I find myself playing the Zager more and more. Then I recorded it the other night, straight into my audio interface and into a bare Pro Tools track. I was BLOWN AWAY by how amazing this guitar sounded dry signal. No EQ, no Reverb, no nothing. I’m still amazed at how good it sounded. Could not give a higher recommendation. Thanks Zager family!!!

I have been a professional guitar player for many years and I recently acquired a Zager model ZAD-20 guitar this past week and decided to post a review of my initial impressions of it. I came across the Zager brand from an ad on Facebook and became curious about them, especially because of their “EZ play” moniker and the fact that they are American-made. To be honest, I wanted to get one of their cheaper models to see how it compared with some of the other guitars I own before pulling the trigger on a more expensive model. My first impression when I finally got it was how well it was packaged for shipment. Zager gets an A+ in that category. It came FedEx and was packed really well. I also got the molded hardshell case that Zager offers and the guitar fits its plush, form-fitted interior perfectly so the guitar can’t move around and get damaged while being transported. The case also has a built-in humidity meter to make it easy to tell if the guitar is in a properly humidified environment when its inside it. Since I live in a dry climate, this is a nice feature to have. When I finally pulled the guitar out, I was instantly struck by how lightweight it is. I put it on a scale and it came in at just under 4lbs. The Zager website says it’s made from solid woods so the weight test was the ultimate way to prove that it contained no laminates. And since this is a brand-new guitar, it will only get lighter with age which is great. I was also struck by the ebony fingerboard, tight woodgrain on the spruce top, as well as the bone nut and compensated bridge. There was also nicely-done mother-of-pearl inlay around the sound hole along with a nice MOP “Z” at the 17th fret. All very nice touches usually reserved for more expensive guitars, especially on an American-made instrument. Something that I also look for on any guitar is the fret ends. These were perfect and I didn’t need to dress them which I often have to do on guitars under $1000. Also, when I opened the case, there was a sheet of paper signed by Denny Zager, explaining that the action is deliberately set a little high from the factory for players who like to strum hard. However, if one is a softer player or a fingerpicker like I am, the paper had simple directions on how to lower the action with the accompanying Allen wrench. This was easy to do since the nut on the truss rod turned smoothly. After checking the neck for straightness, and tuning the guitar (which is equipped with quality Grover tuners) to the proper pitch, the action was .12 of an inch between the top of the 12th fret and the bottom of the top E string. After playing for a few minutes, I was impressed that it played about as effortlessly as my $4000 Taylor Special Edition. However, I think the action could be made to go even lower if the saddle was sanded down, which is something I’ll probably do myself at some point, although it is certainly not necessary. The mahogany back and sides and spruce top cause the guitar to have a bright, crisp sound that is very even with a very pronounced low end, all things I like in a guitar and is usually sought after by seasoned players. The neck wood looks like maple to me and along with its light lacquer finish, is very conducive for faster playing up and down its length. The bone nut too is 1.72 inches wide rather than the standard 1.69 inch of most guitars, something that I like a lot because I also play classical guitar which makes transitioning between the two types of guitars easier. Intonation is also very good, even when using a capo which I use often. The guitar also came with an optional pick guard that could be applied to the top next to the sound hole for players who like to strum a lot or more roughly and not damage the wood. It also has a strap peg at the neck heel and at the end of the body. Although this ZAD-20 model does not come with a built-in pickup system, I will probably install a piezo under the bridge saddle to electrify it, in which case it should sound even better. Overall, fit and finish is top-of-the-line and what you’d expect in quality, American-made guitar. Bottom line is, if Zager makes a guitar this good at a lower price point, I’d expect their more expensive models to maybe be even better, as a result, I am compelled to highly recommend Zager guitars!

I took a few guitar lessons about 40 years ago and thought I might enjoy trying it again. I bought a cheaper guitar in January 2022 to see if I really wanted to do this. I did enjoy it and decided to get a quality guitar and chose a ZAD50CE in May 2022. Yesterday, I that other guitar out to compare it to the Zager. I was surprised at how much harder it was to press the strings of the chords on that guitar than the Zager! The Zager was much easier to play. So glad I went with the Zager. I’ve also purchased several accessories and their customer service is excellent. Someday I’ll probably get a ZAD900 but I’ll need to work on my wife, first - that will take a while!
