Done with Whole Foods
I have always enjoyed the choice and quality of WF and I can get alternate butter, yogurt, and creamers that are not available at other stores. However, I am going to replace it as my main store as I have repeated trouble with my EBT card. The first problem came about after they offered pick up during the pandemic. I could use my EBT card in the store but being a person at high risk for COVID I wanted to use it for pickup but was not allowed. Almost a year into the pandemic that has not changed. Then two weeks after the Texas freeze, I had in for a quick shop for above mentioned staples and after my shopping and after the cashier began to tally my order, I walked to the card machine where in small letters it said “no EBT”. I told the young want to stop because I needed to go to another aisle so that I could use my EBT card. He kept ringing things up saying, You have another card right?” No, that was the only card I had any money on. I told them again to cancel the order and then the bagger says, “Do you have another card?” I said again that I wanted to cancel the order and go to another register. The two of them told me that because the headquarters are in Texas the EBT process is not working. Ok, the weather was bad 2 weeks ago- on that day and for many before it had been in the 70’s there. I can only chalk up to the lack of priority Whole Foods puts on it’s lower income shoppers. It was not the top of their priority list to get it up and running. All this trouble over trying to use my card there for staples shopping there with my EBT card there has caused me to feel unwelcome there so after years (before pandemic and going on UI and EBT after losing work) I am taking my commerce elsewhere.
