Long-Time Customer Frustrated by Confusing Billing
I have been a Verizon customer for more than 20 years and have experienced both good and bad service over that time. Recently, however, the experience has become frustrating and confusing. My bill increased again, so I contacted customer service to understand why my loyalty discount had been reduced. The first representative suggested that I switch plans and apply for a military discount without first asking whether I was eligible. I found that recommendation inappropriate and dismissive. If loyalty rewards are only temporary promotions, customers should not have to constantly switch to newer plans just to maintain a reasonable bill. The next representative never completed the verification process. I was told a verification link would be sent, but it never arrived, and the conversation went nowhere. Eventually, I reached a representative who was helpful and able to reduce my bill. While I did not appreciate being told to "relax," he was otherwise attentive and worked to resolve the issue. My biggest frustration is that I seem to have to call every year to negotiate a reasonable bill. I would rather have straightforward pricing without constantly changing promotions, plan requirements, discounts, fees, and special programs. Verizon is not all bad, but it is not all good either. It remains one of the most expensive carriers, and for what customers pay, billing should be easier to understand, and customer service should be more consistent. If I have to go through this same process again next year, I may start looking for another provider.
