Verizon Ain’t Worth It
Way too expensive, signal ain’t as good as they claim, and customer service is a nightmare. They nickel and dime you for everything. Used to be the best, now it’s just a ripoff.

They boast about their amazing nationwide coverage, but this has not been my experience. If I am not connected to "call on Wi-Fi" at home, I can't understand anyone on the other end and vice versa. When traveling around my city, the connection issues aren't as bad, but data is always SUPER slow or non-existent. I feel trapped to wi-fi and wish they would use the MULTIPLE network feedbacks I have been submitting all over town to make improvements, or at least respond with a reason that they can't.

While I am generally pleased with Verizon, the latest changes to its military discount are … bad. I have stuck with Verizon because it’s customer service is generally quite good. It is the only company that seems capable of handling deployments and return without dorking ip the process. I was surprised when, out of no where, I received a notice that I had ten days to verify my military status or I would lose my discount - final warning in fact (who cares if it is the first notification). Apparently, as my DD214 is not strong enough evidence of my service, Verizon decided to switch to ID.me. OK, I use the service, no big deal? Nope, 20 minutes later I was still attempting to sign in without having to sign in again, vice repeatedly having to be texted verifications that are outdated even as you enter them, only to get through and discover that you were signed out of Verizon when you were directed to ID.me that you were signed out of Verizon (which you have to do to get to the ID.me verification) which, of course requires you to sign back into Verizon which then needs you to sign back into into ID.me, which requires another set of random text code verification that are no longer valid when you enter them … repeat ad nauseum. Somehow, it finally went through. Why? I have no idea. Perhaps there is a little sensor that can determine when you reach the required threshold of frustration and then you finally get through? It’s pretty clear that no one validated this process was actually functional before issuing an ultimatum to produce or else! We pay more for Verizon than its competitors precisely because we have previously never had issues like this before. Demanding that long term loyal customers jump into a barely functional process is not a positive experience for anyone.

Verizon used to be good, at least for a while. You could check out things and your payment history on your account quickly, they had a good quick response rate, and you could add or cancel stuff easily on your account without feeling pressured. Not anymore. It has become increasingly hard to see simple things on the website, and I feel more and more like they are funneling people into basically picking options that will increase revenue for the company, but not necessarily for the benefit of the customer. Case in point, A few days ago, a couple of Verizon representatives showed up at my door steps and offered me a 5G internet service plan. I said I was ok with my current AT&T plan and didn’t need anything else. They insisted for me to try the 5G modem for a full month FOR FREE, and that if I wanted to switch to Verizon plan at the end of that month trial period, I would be charged only $25 monthly afterwards (compared to the $60 with AT&T), because I was already a Verizon Wireless existing customer. If I did not want to switch, all I needed to do was to repack the modem and send it back through Verizon’s shipping. After hesitating for a moment, considering the trial was free, and I was not committing to anything until the end of the trial period, I decided to try it out. I received the modem in the mail a few days later. After barely a couple of days of trial, it was obvious I was getting lots of interruptions in my internet connection, and it even created a problem where almost lost my my Hulu home entertainment, being warned that my zip code and home address were now different from the IP address on my account and that I could not do that more than 3 times per year(!) I stopped using the Verizon modem immediately and connected back to my AT&T modem. Meanwhile, I received my latest bill from Verizon a couple of days ago. In it, there was a $61.29 charge for the 5G modem that was originally supposed to be tried for a month FOR FREE. That charge was comprised of a $11.29 “one-time charge” and a $50 monthly charge (that, incredibly, was a “discounted” charge that would normally be $70!) I was furious. I felt I had been completely fooled. Needless to say, I asked for this 5G modem internet plan to be removed immediately from my account, and to be reimbursed for that charge that I was never made aware of, and that should have never existed on my bill. At this point, I have finally connected to a representative of the tech team who told me he was going to remove the charge, but it still haven't happened yet. Shady tricks and aggressive tactics to acquire a new market share (5G internet in this case) are NOT the proper way to run a business.

Be careful when signing up for Verizon's 5G service and don't sign up for Verizon's "5G And More, which costs $100 per month (not worth the money). Chatting with a customer representative from Verizon online, I was mislead as he started that I can add 5G service for just $10 a month added to my current plan and I said ok, sign me up. When I got my bill, I was surprised that their service actual cost is $100 per month for their 5G And More, making my bill $38 over my previous month's bill. Got back online with Verizon customer service and told them about the increase in my current bill. After being online with Verizon for close to three hours, we agreed to have my previous plan restored (which averages about $75 to $85 per month) and not $110 per month. I agreed to pay my current bill of $110 and receive a $38 rebate for my next bill, which sounds reasonable. Verizon 5G services is not all that good as the 5G signal is inconsistent, unreliable, and erratic as the signal continues to switch between 4G and 5G, even when streaming Netflix and Amazon prime video.

They say it has coverage at my new home but it doesn't. I have to keep my phone on airplane mode at home because the half a bar tries to compete with Wi-Fi calling. I work from home and it's a disaster. I have an iPhone and a Samsung phone. How is it that Verizon signal works better on the iPhone? They are way too expensive, terrible customer service and horrendous wait times and the knowledge within their retail stores: slim to none.

Verizon charges top service prices for mediocre data/reception with below average customer service.

I originally switched to Verizon for their $500 gift card offer when you bring your own phone. I was using an unlocked OnePlus. At first, about once a month my phone would just stop receiving texts. Randomly after about 24 hours I'd receive 12+ messages out of nowhere. Furthermore, the texts all said they were sent at the exact time I received them. This quickly became an issue when friends didn't understand why I wasn't replying, and when I needed text confirmations that wouldn't come through. Eventually I figured out what was happening and learned that putting my phone in Airplane mode and back out would resolve the issue. But then the issue started happening a couple times a month.. and then every week.. then almost EVERY DAY. When I tried to call and get support it was like banging my head against a wall. A bunch of foreigners who can hardly speak English and who can't understand what you are saying. After multiple times on the phone, I had zero help, let alone a resolution. Eventually I got pissed at the issues and broke the phone. Now I am on a Motorola and seem to no longer have the missing texts issue. Instead my service has become VERY flaky, frequently getting messages saying "No Internet Connection" or texts failing to send and saying "Contact your provider". Thus I am still constantly restarting my phone to reconnect. Furthermore, the gift card they gave me can only be applied to Verizon purchases. What they want is for you to buy upgrades like headphones or cases at insane prices. If you want to use it towards your bill, you can, if you're willing to suffer the process every month. You have to have auto-pay set up to get your $10/mo off to get the price they advertised to hook you in the first place. But you can't use the gift card for auto pay, and you can't just apply it to your bill whenever you feel like it. So every month you have to wait for the bill to be "ready", and then try not to forget to use the gift card in the 10-12 days til it auto-drafts. And EVERY BILL you have to re-add the gift card (hoping you lose the number?) and make a payment. This is a ridiculous waste of time. I will be waiting the 12 months required to retain the gift card value, and then switching companies.
