Fromex: high standards, excellent service
For years, I have ordered jewel case desk photo calendars from Fromex, and recently decided to try their True Black and White photo printing. I have ordered and received only one batch of images so far, but they are of the highest quality - much better than those from the online printing service I had been using, and well worth the extra expense. I also appreciate that my prints are promptly delivered and arrive in good shape.

The difference between screen view and…
The difference between screen view and finished product-in terms of exposure-is more than I am accustomed to. Typically I brighten about 10-20. Fromex requires about 30. Also, some of the images are actually less sharp than drugstore printing. If you use a true b&w process, I am not sure if you are creating a negative or how you process, but in my mind the images should be a bit sharper.

Lawrence, If your screen is calibrated, there is no need to change the density. The real issue with B&W is that everyone has there own view of what looks best. We print to the density and contrast of what we think is the best print possible from your image file. If you are unhappy with the print, please return it with your instructions of what to change. As far as sharpness, the print is as sharp as the file it was made from. We print the digital file with a 400 ppi laser image to the Ilford B&W silver gelatin photo paper.
