Beautiful, exceptionally well-made bed — but Thuma needs to improve fulfillment communication
I ordered the King Classic Bed and two nightstands from Thuma on July 29. I also ordered my new King mattress from WinkBed that same day because I was coordinating the two purchases. The difference in fulfillment was striking. My WinkBed mattress was delivered on August 5. Thuma advertised the bed as shipping in 1–3 business days, but the bed did not actually ship until August 12. That meant my brand-new mattress had to sit on the floor for nearly a week while I waited for the bed frame. During that time, I contacted Thuma several times trying to obtain a specific fulfillment status or expected ship date. The responses were vague, and I was never proactively notified that the advertised shipping timeframe would not be met. I understand that delays happen, but when they do, I expect a company to communicate that directly rather than require the customer to repeatedly ask for information. Once the Thuma furniture arrived, however, my opinion of the product itself was very different. The nightstands are beautiful, and the bed is extremely well made. The wood has a substantial, furniture-quality feel, the finish is attractive and consistent, the rounded corners are beautifully executed, and the joinery fits together very precisely. The slat system is sturdy and well designed, and the upholstered headboard is neatly tailored and feels like an integral part of the bed rather than an afterthought. Assembly went very smoothly. At first we thought four short legs and the center support leg were missing, but those pieces arrived the following day packaged with the slats. Once everything was here, the bed came together perfectly. The finished bed feels exceptionally solid, looks beautiful, and gives me the impression that considerable thought went into both the engineering and the craftsmanship. After seeing it assembled, I believe it is a very good value for the quality. Thuma clearly takes pride in the furniture it produces. My criticism is not of the furniture. It is of Thuma’s fulfillment and communication process. If a company advertises that an item ships in 1–3 business days and cannot meet that timeframe, customers should receive a proactive notice explaining the delay and providing an updated expectation. Product quality: 5/5 Design and construction: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Fulfillment/communication: 2/5 Overall: 4/5 I would buy Thuma furniture again because I am genuinely impressed with the finished product. But I would go into another purchase knowing that the quality of Thuma’s furniture is currently much stronger than the quality of its fulfillment communication.
