The lamp is fantastic. App could be improved.
To be fair, this review is for the product only
The lamp itself is perfect, as polished and finished as can be. Packaging was excellent. Assembly took about 1 minute. The reason for 4 stars is for the app, which needs a bit more work and could do with more functionality.
Disclaimer: I waited 4 years plus for the kickstarter product haha...

worth the wait
Like a number of reviewers on here, I need to be clear that I’m reviewing the product. I know a lot of Kickstarter backers have experienced a lot of frustration - and I was one - but after all that it was worth the wait.
I received my lamp yesterday and it already feels like it’s part of the family. He’s got a surprising amount of character for a lamp, and works well as both an ambient RGB coloured lamp and as a more focused light when using ‘overdrive’ mode.
The app is basic but works well, and pretty much does everything you’d need it to do. The rubber shoes and spare lamp glass are nice, thoughtful additions to the pack as well.
All in all, this is a great product which does what it promises and will make a terrific addition to any home. It’s a guaranteed conversation piece and I’m glad I hung on in there.

My review that only stated facts about this company was removed with generic excuse letter. Trustpilot nor Lampster are very reputable.
I reposted my original review on Reddit seeing as Trustpilot or Lampster cannot censor it. A simple search of "Lampster" on Reddit will give all the accuracy in reviewing this company.
My experience has been a 4 years and counting wait. I emailed the company a handful of time with 1 response in 2016.
I paid a total fee that was charged $149 + $17 for shipping on December 21st, 2015. Now Lampster says they will send the product only if additional fees are paid. At that point from others comments there is still months before/if the product has shipped.
The company claims to be located in San Francisco but in reality are in Romania.
One of the founding partners quit.
"Monthly" progress updates are bi-annual with content no different than before.
This is my first time posting a negative review about a company. I'm disappointed in both Lampster and Trustpilot.

I think two distinctions need to be…
I think two distinctions need to be made here:
1. About the creators
2. About the product itself
The Creators
As with 90% of all crowdfunded projects, they never get delivered on time. It's pretty much a given for these types of campaigns and 'non seasoned' backers soon get acquainted with this fact. Then again there are many backers who think they're actually purchasing a product so get pretty irate when it's not 'delivered' on time. I guess we've all been spoiled by Amazon.
From a personal perspective I would say 6 months to 1 year is just about an acceptable delay for receiving a crowd funded product. 2 years is pushing it and anything more than that is pretty much unacceptable.
The only mitigation to this is to ensure regular communications are maintained to the backers to let them know about ongoing challenges and what's being done to overcome them. I cannot say this was one of the main strengths of the creators. Updates did occur but not at the rate most were expecting. Nonetheless they did not give up & to this day are still fulfilling orders. I assume this is the reason for most of the low ratings.
This of course spurns lots of negativity and was very evident in the Kickstarter comments. At the end of the day I believe the creators were overwhelmed with the amount of orders and did not expect such a response (both a blessing and a curse?). Nonetheless they are still human. Calling them all names under the sun will not make your 'order' arrive any quicker. Negativity will simply attract more negativity.
The Product
On the flipside, if you are fortunate enough to receive your Lampster then you'll certainly be pleased. I am one such person and after receiving it felt like it was almost (I said almost!) worth the wait.
I won't ramble on as I've done that enough but the product is very very good. I'm very pleased with it. I really like the industrial & rustic look. It's well made and so far very durable. I filled mine with small garden pebbles so it's pretty stable and now weighs in at just over 4kgs.
The quality of light and range of colours is good. It makes a very useful headphone holder and the pen holder is actually more useful than I thought.
Downsides? The main issue is the colour resets to white after you manually switch the lamp off from the button. You then have to open the app to change the colour again. However, I heard they're currently working on a fix for this.
Overall I'm very pleased and think it's an excellent product.
I hope all those still waiting get their Lampsters soon.

Maybe I'm a fool
Maybe I'm a fool, but I intentionally pre-ordered the Army Green Lampster for $200 from The Lampster's website rather than backing their Kickstarter so that, in theory, they'd receive more money. I did this because I know Kickstarter takes a big cut of the funds, and this looked like an awesome project that I was happy to give a little more money to to make a reality.
After a year, they were already past their initial estimated delivery date, and the delays were obvious from their updates they posted on the website. But they still seemed like they were working full steam ahead to finish the project and get everyone what they ordered. I reached out to them on Facebook and was assured they were wrapping up and I'd receive my Lampster soon.
After 2 years and still nothing to show for it, they stopped posting updates on the website altogether. They only posted them on Kickstarter, which can only be seen by Kickstarter backers. I wrote them asking them to continue posting the updates to the website, and I got no reply. So all I've had to go on since then have been the people's public on their Kickstarter page.
I reached out and asked about individual, expedited shipping because at this point I'd be happy to pay a little more for shipping to get my lamp.
I was told it would be $35, but all they had were models with EU plugs. With my toddler running around, I just didn't feel safe using an adapter, so I declined.
Now 3 years and some answered and some unanswered emails and Facebook messages later, I still have nothing to show for it. And from what I gather from people's comments on the Kickstarter page, it sounds like Lampster is just about out of money and will no longer be shipping outside of the EU unless users pay for the individual, expedited shipping. And without that, I'm just out of luck.
So yeah, maybe I'm a fool for trying to give them more money by buying on their website. Maybe I'm a fool for believing for 3 years that they'd still make good on their continued promises to deliver. Maybe I'm a fool for believing for so long that this was anything other than what it really was: a $200 lesson to never back a startup project.
