First things first, I am a writer myself. I know I can write a good resume on my own, so when I went to The Joe sauce, I was hoping they could really do something exceptional. I was assigned a resume writer who was supposed to give me multiple edits and provide me with a polished piece. The first step of Jobsauce's resume writing service is a critique and job history questionnaire. I sent in my own resume, and they gave me notes. We set a deadline of one week, and the resume writer assured me they could meet this. However, they didn't even get the questionnaire back to me for five days. At this point, I had concerns, simply because I knew my writer would be rushing to complete it. I completed the questionnaire the hour I received it. My resume writer turned it in on the final day (actually, a little past the midnight, after our deadline). This only cemented my belief that the resume was rushed. Of course, there were also grammatical mistakes, something unseemly on a normal resume but completely unacceptable when applying for writing positions. I pointed out the mistakes, and they fixed them. Still, I felt my resume was something thrown together last minute, rather than being carefully crafted. I figured I'd give it a month and see if it worked. After all, they were professionals. Maybe they knew something I didn't. A month has passed, and I've applied to more than forty jobs with their application without a single response or interview offer. So far, the two-hundred dollar resume hasn't fared any better than the one I had before. Perhaps their service will work better for some people, but it didn't work for me. There are plenty of other resume writing services that are more affordable and will give you just as much, if not more success.

None of this would have been possible without the Job Sauce. At every step, my coach dug deep to fully understood the situation and relationships at stake. When I didn’t know how to navigate multiple offers, my coach helped me leverage one to expedite and improve another more favorable offer, and—perhaps most importantly— avoid burning any bridges in the process. Later, when I received a promotion and didn’t think it was possible to negotiate without seeming ungrateful and turning people off, he coached me on how to make a salary request beyond what I was initially comfortable with...and it worked! No one was offended, and I’m now making way more than I thought I could.

Coaching: I had the pleasure to have my coaching one-hour session with Smith Gardner. He was also the person I had my initial 30 minutes resume interview with. Smith took the time to explain to me different type of practices to follow to approach new job opportunities.
