Where it started:Rocky changedeverything andI never set out to start a dog food company. My husky Rocky had the worst stomach on the planet. Years of vet visits, prescription diets, and hundreds spent on premium food brands. We tried everything. Nothing worked. So I decided to build it myself. 36 recipe iterations. Countless hours with vets and nutritionists. All chasing one question: what’s the best food we could possibly make for a dog? When we finally got it right, Rocky was the proof. He hasn't been sick in over 18 months. He runs three miles with me every morning. That's the standard every Happy Howl bowl is held to. Do NOT buy Happy Howl dog food. Initially, my dogs loved it, then quickly lost interest, then vomited twice after eating it. The company does not give you a courtesy warning when the subscription processes. Their refund policy includes an extensive list of exceptions, two being if you received a discount and if you ordered via subscription. They then said they would never take a product back because they can’t resell it. So, who qualifies for a refund? The email I received from them sounds like it was written in Chinglish AI and included how to introduce a new food to my dog – something I already did 2 months ago and informed them as such. I’m now out $379 (for 96 packs, the mailing boxes have not even been opened) plus the 30 packs from my 1st order that I wasn’t even asking them to refund. In a time when customer service makes or breaks a company, their customer service is substandard, for sure. Buyer beware!

Hi Pamela,
We take claims like this very seriously. After searching our entire customer database by your name, email address, phone number, and mailing address, we can confirm that there is no record of any orders or subscriptions under your information in our system. We are not showing any transactions associated with your name or contact info.
A few important notes:
• Happy Howl only processes payments through secure, verifiable checkouts tied to confirmed customer orders.
• If you believe your card was used without authorization, we strongly recommend contacting your bank immediately to dispute the charge and ensure your account is secure.
• This may have been the result of fraudulent use of your card or identity, and your bank can initiate a formal investigation.
To ensure we get to the bottom of this and rule out any possible error, please email our customer support team at [email protected] with a screenshot of the charge, including the transaction ID, and we will look into it further on our end.
Thank you,
The Happy Howl Team

We’re truly sorry to hear that your pup wasn’t feeling well. As dog parents ourselves, we know how upsetting it is when your dog isn’t at their best, and we take feedback like this very seriously.
Regarding Your Concern:
• Food Safety: Every batch of Happy Howl is made in a USDA-inspected, human-grade facility with strict quality and safety controls. Our recipes are formulated by veterinary nutritionists to be complete and balanced for adult dogs. If your dog experienced symptoms, it could have been due to a sensitivity or a sudden diet change, which is why we always recommend a slow transition over 5–7 days.
• Return Policy Transparency: Because our food is perishable and made with fresh ingredients, we’re unable to accept returns or resell opened products. This is standard across the pet food industry and is clearly stated in our policy at checkout and on our website. That said, our team does everything we can to offer support, credits, or partial refunds when appropriate—especially in situations where a pup has a sensitive stomach.
We would love to understand more about what happened and see how we can help. Please reach out directly to our customer care team at [email protected] with any vet documentation or details so we can make this right.
Wishing your dog a quick and full recovery,
The Happy Howl Team

I canceled my subscription
My reply to their “answer” Your response is exactly the problem. You give the same scripted excuse to everyone — claim emails were sent, claim the order shipped before cancellation, and then blame the customer. Those emails never arrived, and I checked thoroughly.
This isn’t just me. A friend of mine also canceled and still got double-shipped, and there are plenty of other reviews here saying the same thing. That many people having the exact same complaint is not a coincidence.
Canceling should actually stop shipments and charges. Instead, customers are left fighting with you or their credit card company to undo the mess.
——————————————————————————
I canceled my subscription, but Happy Howl charged me anyway.
When I contacted them, they claimed they had sent emails about an upcoming shipment — they didn’t. I checked thoroughly, including spam folders. They basically called me a liar instead of taking responsibility.
Thankfully, I disputed the charge with my credit card company and got my money back. But I shouldn’t have had to go through that in the first place.
If you’re thinking about trying Happy Howl, be very careful with the subscription. Canceling doesn’t seem to mean much to them, and their customer service is more interested in deflecting blame than fixing the problem.
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
Hi Mindy,
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate the opportunity to clarify.
After reviewing your account, your subscription was canceled two days after your order had already shipped. As outlined in our policy and confirmed by time-stamped email notifications, we send multiple reminders before every upcoming renewal, including one 5 days prior to charge, to allow customers time to adjust, skip, or cancel. These emails are automatically generated and delivered to the address on file, and while we understand that email filters aren’t always perfect, we can confirm they were successfully sent on our end.
Regarding Our Policies:
• Transparency is core to how we operate. Our subscription terms, shipping schedule, and cancellation cutoffs are clearly displayed at checkout and in our help center.
• We never “charge anyway” after a subscription is canceled. In this case, the order was processed and shipped before the cancellation request came through.
We understand your frustration and that timing didn’t work in your favor. But please know: our team never intends to “blame” customers—we simply rely on accurate account data to explain what happened and to be as fair as possible in upholding our policies.
We’re glad your credit card company resolved the situation for you, and we genuinely hope your dog is doing well. Should you decide to give Happy Howl another try in the future, our team is always here to help ensure a smoother experience.
Warmly,
The Happy Howl Team

Unsatisfactory customer service
After reading the reviews I’d purchased this food for my dog but unfortunately she didn’t tolerate it at all.
I contacted the company asking for a refund upon return and it was denied.
I was really disappointed and disgusted especially being first time customer.
They stated I should have purchased the sample package but in the same time on their website they advertise 30 day refund policy.
Usually companies with a good accreditation will have satisfactory customer service meanwhile this company it is very unsatisfactory.
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
We’re truly sorry to hear that your dog didn’t tolerate the food well. While we wish every pup had a perfect experience with Happy Howl, we know that every dog is different—and we take that seriously.
Regarding Your Refund Request:
Our refund policy, which is clearly outlined at checkout and on our website, applies only to first-time purchases of our sample box, not full-size orders. This allows pet parents to try our food risk-free in smaller quantities before committing to a full subscription. It’s an approach that balances fairness to new customers with the reality that we cannot accept returns of perishable, opened food for safety and compliance reasons.
We understand this may have felt unclear, and we’ll take your feedback as an opportunity to further highlight these details at key points in the shopping experience.
Our Commitment to Customer Support:
Our team is always here to help—not to deny or deflect. We try to be transparent about what we can and can’t do, and when possible, we often go above policy to offer credits or partial accommodations. If there was anything in your interaction that felt dismissive, we sincerely apologize.
We’d love the chance to regain your trust. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] if you’d be open to a conversation.
Warmly,
The Happy Howl Team

Worst company ever!
Worst company ever!! I had a subscription with them I received every 2.5 months I would just use this food as a back up for my dogs when we went away or I was out of homemade food. They continue to increase the price with out notice of any kind. Then they increased it by 35% in 1 shipment and the food made my dogs sick I went on and cancelled my subscription. Now come 3 months later they sent the order again anyway after I cancelled and charged my card. Their customer service is ridiculous. Read their policies carefully before you buy. You can basically only get a refund the first time you purchase. So even though they jacked their prices up and must of reduced quality with doing so they will not take returns or give you $ back. I talked to them before the food was even shipped considering I had already canceled the last time I received it. They continued to tell me it was my fault even though it clearly stated on my end it was canceled. So now I have another order of food that makes my dogs sick and it cost me $137!! He was willing to give me a 15% discount if I continued with my subscription where I continued to tell him how I already cancelled it and they had raised the price by 30 % already. Stay away from this company!!! Also read if you try to stop credit card payment it says they will take legal actions against you. A reputable company does not have policies they have!! Also if you cancel your subscription make sure you screen shot the process bc they send you no confirmation emails! So they then just go ahead and bill you again saying it’s your fault you never canceled.
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
We’re genuinely sorry to hear that you’re this upset and appreciate the opportunity to respond with some important clarity for anyone reading this.
1. Subscription Cancellation
Your subscription was not canceled in our system prior to the renewal date. We’ve reviewed your account history thoroughly. If you believed it was canceled and didn’t receive a confirmation, we urge you to reach out sooner next time so we can confirm directly and prevent unwanted renewals. For transparency, our system always generates a 5-day pre-renewal email reminder and charges only occur when a subscription is active.
To help avoid any confusion, we also strongly recommend customers cancel via their account dashboard—and yes, we do send cancellation confirmations unless a customer cancels mid-checkout or doesn’t complete the full process.
2. Price Increase
There was a price increase this year due to significant increases in ingredient and packaging costs, which we communicated in advance via email to all active subscribers. While we regret that this caught you off guard, we have never raised prices without notice. We remain committed to premium, USDA-inspected, human-grade ingredients with no preservatives—and we have not and will never “reduce quality” to manage costs.
3. Refund & Return Policy
We do not accept returns of opened or perishable food for food safety and regulatory reasons. This is standard across the industry. However, we do offer a first-time refund policy on sample orders to allow pet parents to try the food with minimal risk. Our team also offered a courtesy discount to help offset the recent charge, which you declined.
4. Food Safety & Sick Pets
We take all health claims seriously and have robust quality control in a USDA-inspected facility, with batch testing to ensure food safety. If your dogs experienced digestive upset, it may have been related to a feeding transition or individual sensitivity—not a change in formulation. Still, we welcome vet documentation and are happy to escalate any concern to our internal quality assurance team for further review.
5. Charge Disputes & Legal Language
We never threaten legal action. Our terms simply outline that fraudulent chargebacks—meaning if someone falsely disputes a valid charge for a delivered, non-returnable product—are treated seriously, as is standard for any e-commerce business.

We understand you’re upset, and we truly wish your experience had gone differently. If you’d like to continue the conversation privately, we’re available anytime at [email protected].
Sincerely,
The Happy Howl Team

I ordered Happy Howl on the 28th
I ordered Happy Howl on the 28th. of March. My dogs literally should not touch it. I tried different methods to integrate it into their diet with no success. On April 1st. I went on the site and canceled any future shipments. 3 days later I was sent another box of 36 at 169.00 a box. When I talked to a representative he told me that I couldn’t cancel and kept arguing with me that I ordered the second box. When I asked to return the second box they said to donate it and that there were no refunds. They kept offering me different offers to stay with them. Enter that company’s site at your own risk! RUN!
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re genuinely sorry your dogs didn’t take to the food and that you left the experience feeling frustrated. That’s never the outcome we aim for, and we’d like to provide some important clarification.
Order & Cancellation Timeline
Your account shows that your initial order was placed on March 28th, and your second order was processed and shipped automatically based on your selected subscription frequency—which you chose during checkout. The cancellation request came after the second order had already been processed, which is why it was fulfilled as scheduled.
We send a 5-day advance email notice before each renewal, giving customers time to cancel or modify upcoming shipments. These are automated and were delivered to the email address you provided at purchase. If they landed in spam or went unseen, we completely understand how that could be frustrating—and we’ll always work with you to improve the experience.
Return & Refund Policy
Because we sell perishable, human-grade food, we’re unable to accept returns. However, we do recommend donating unused food to a local rescue or shelter—and many customers appreciate this approach. We also offered a range of courtesy options and discounts to help offset the cost of the second shipment, which you declined.
Our Intentions
We never argue with customers or try to force anyone to stay. Our goal is to explain what happened factually, offer reasonable solutions within our policies, and support our customers with care and transparency. We’re sorry if the conversation felt otherwise.
If you’d like to continue the conversation or request further help, our customer care team is always available at [email protected].
Warmly,
The Happy Howl Team

Shame on you Happy Howl
Decided to try Happy Howl despite all the negative feedback. Lesson learned. When reviewing my credit card transaction I noticed they charged me double the price. When I sought to resolve the problem I spent the next thirty minutes chatting with the representative who was trying to find excuses why it might be my fault. Never once offered to make it right. Lost $200 on the conflict. Credit card company here I come. They released the product to me reguardless of my intent to cancel. I allowed my dogs to sample the product since it was here. Gotta tell you all it was at least 50% carbs just looking at it. All potatoes and white rice. Not good. My picky eater was picking around all that crap
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
We’re sorry to hear you feel this way and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns transparently.
1. No Double Charge Occurred
After carefully reviewing your account, we can confirm that you were only charged once for your order—at the exact price shown at checkout. We’ve also verified that your claim of a double charge was reviewed by your credit card company, which ruled in our favor after evaluating all transaction records and communications. This outcome reflects that the claims made in your dispute were not substantiated.
2. Subscription & Cancellation Timing
Your subscription renewal was processed according to the schedule selected during checkout. As clearly outlined in our policy—and reinforced through automated email reminders sent 5 days in advance—orders cannot be canceled once they’ve been processed and shipped. Your cancellation came after the order had been fulfilled.
3. Ingredient Quality
Happy Howl recipes are formulated by veterinary nutritionists using human-grade meat, broth, vegetables, and limited whole-food carbs like potatoes and rice. The food is nutritionally balanced, with 30% protein on a dry matter basis, exceeding most kibble products. Our formulas are free of fillers, preservatives, and low-quality ingredients.
4. Customer Support
Our team spent considerable time with you, working to explain the situation and offer resolution options. At no point was the goal to assign blame—only to clarify timelines and policy. We always aim to support customers with honesty and respect.
⸻
We understand your frustration and that this wasn’t the outcome you were hoping for. But we remain committed to transparency, integrity, and doing right by our customers—and their dogs. If you’d like to provide further documentation or continue the conversation, you can always reach us at [email protected].
Sincerely,
The Happy Howl Team

We made the horrible mistake of…
We made the horrible mistake of purchasing from Happy Howl because we were told there was a 30 day guarantee. I got the variety pack. Their website somehow placed a discount code that I never entered myself. We received the food and my dog will not take a single bite of it. I sent an email and they responded saying to try a few different techniques to introduce the new food. Everything we tried failed. I let them know I gave it an honest try but she literally would not eat any of it. She has eaten Farmer's Dog and a few of the other higher end foods with no issue so this was really odd. They responded rudely saying that I entered the discount code and that they would not stand behind their product simply because of the discount code that I never even asked for. So now I'm stuck with over 30 boxes of food that my dog won't touch. I took it to my neighbors who have 3 rescue pups and literally none of the will touch it either.
Absolutey HORRIBLE customer service and horrible product with an obvious discount code scam. RUN! Do not trust them. Stick with companies that have reliable customer service like Farmer's Dog and Ollie. The fact that a company will not stand behind their product because of a discount code that I literally knew nothing about is insane. But the rude customer service is a whole next level. I was able to protest this with my credit card and they reversed the charge but more importantly than the money I feel obligated to share my experience with this horrible company so that others aren't hit with the same scam.
Response from Happy HowlAug 22, 2025
We’re very sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. While we always want our customers—and their dogs—to love Happy Howl, we also want to set the record straight with transparency and facts.
1. 30-Day Guarantee & Discount Code Use
Our website clearly outlines that our 30-day money-back guarantee applies to first-time purchases of our sample pack with no discount applied. This is stated on the product page and reiterated in our policy section during checkout.
In your case, you manually applied a promotional discount code during checkout, which is why your order was not eligible for a refund under our terms. We do not apply discount codes on behalf of customers, nor do we run hidden or auto-applied codes. The code entered was tied to a promotional offer, and this was reflected in your order confirmation and invoice.
2. Product Quality & Palatability
Happy Howl is made with human-grade meat, bone broth, vegetables, and gentle carbohydrates, all cooked in a USDA-inspected facility. While many dogs love it—even picky eaters—we understand every dog is different. That’s why we recommend trying the sample pack first, which contains just 6 meals. You purchased a full box with over 30 meals, and the fact that your dog didn’t enjoy it is not something we can guarantee against—especially when no transition period is followed or when food is offered cold or without warming.
We have many customers who have switched from brands like Farmer’s Dog, Ollie, and JustFoodForDogs and found great success with Happy Howl due to our shelf stability, quality ingredients, and digestibility. That said, no food will be a fit for 100% of dogs.
3. Customer Service Conduct
At no point did any member of our team respond to you rudely. We reviewed the full transcript of your communication, and every message was professional, helpful, and solution-oriented. We offered guidance on introducing the food, provided detailed support, and reiterated the refund policy clearly.
We’re sorry that you felt otherwise, but we also must uphold policies equally across all customers to ensure fairness.
4. Disputed Charge
We were notified that your credit card company reversed the charge despite the policy being upheld on our side. While credit card companies often side with customers in good faith, it’s important to note that the reversal was not due to any confirmed wrongdoing or error on our part. We’ve accepted the outcome, and we consider the matter closed.
⸻
We genuinely wish this experience had been different for you and your dog, but we stand by the quality of our product and the professionalism of our team. If anyone reading this has questions about our guarantee, refund policy, or ingredients, we welcome them to reach out directly at [email protected].
Sincerely,
The Happy Howl Team
