We're a bit perplexed.
We just received our first order of Happy Howl food. I have fed my dog either raw or freeze dried rad for 12 years. In his old age I didn't think to stop using anything but human grade food. So far, he's transitioning fine. However, I surprised at the amounts and see the recommendations for feeding are not exact or close to exact - (40-50lbs 1.5 cups a day) Even with the amounts I give him in transition doesn't seem to satisfy him. I'm a bit perplexed and concerned with how much to feed him. He's 43-45 lbs, 13 yrs old and active. Can you give me a more exact or closely exact amount so I can feed what he needs.

Thank you for giving Happy Howl a try—we’re glad to hear your pup is transitioning well so far! We truly appreciate your thoughtful feedback and understand your concern regarding feeding amounts, especially for a senior dog with a long history of high-quality nutrition. Feeding Guidelines: Starting Point, Not the Rule Our recommended feeding ranges (e.g. 1.5 cups for a 40–50 lb dog) are intended as baseline starting points based on average adult energy needs. However, just like humans, every dog’s metabolism is different—factors like age, activity level, muscle mass, and prior diet all impact how much they need to feel satisfied and maintain weight. For Your 43–45 lb, 13-Year-Old Active Dog Given your dog’s weight, age, and energy level, we’d likely recommend starting at around 1.75–2.0 cups per day, divided into two meals. You may need to slightly increase or decrease over a few days based on how he’s feeling, looking, and pooping (yes, poop consistency is a helpful clue!). We also recommend warming the food slightly and mixing it with a little warm water or low-sodium bone broth to boost palatability and hydration—especially helpful for senior pups. ⸻ We’d be happy to calculate a custom feeding plan based on your dog’s full profile. Just shoot us an email at [email protected] with his: • Current weight and ideal weight • Activity level (light, moderate, intense) • Any medical conditions or sensitivities • Transition progress so far We’ll get back to you quickly with a more tailored recommendation. Thanks again for joining the Happy Howl pack—we’re honored to support your boy in his golden years! Warmly, The Happy Howl Team
