This dog food is gross and slimy. My dog would not eat it, so I gave it to a friend and none of her dogs would eat it. False advertising when it comes to showing the actual dog food on TV. I am sure this will not be posted considering Farmer's Dog has mostly give out money for these 5 star reviews, or it is someone who works there.

The Farmer's Dog advertises using…
The Farmer's Dog advertises using Pitbulls. I'll be boycotting this product!
(Pitbulls kill more people and more dogs than ALL other breeds - COMBINED)
Response from The Farmer's DogJul 26, 2022
We feed and celebrate dogs of all breeds at The Farmer's Dog. Despite ample research, there’s nothing to suggest that Pit Bulls are more innately aggressive than other breeds. You can read more about the misconceptions around this amazing breed here: https://www.thefarmersdog.com/digest/pit-bull-guide-history-personality-food-care/#The_pit_bull_and_us

Use fillers, just like kibble companies
I assume that the reason that anyone would want to give their dog real food is because they want the best nutritional value without fillers. I was pretty disappointed to open up a bag of the Turkey food and find whole pieces of corn in it. Corn has zero nutritional value and is no more digestible for a dog than a human. For the price of this food, I would expect there to be better ingredients.
Response from The Farmer's DogJul 25, 2022
We'd love to clarify! Rest assured, we never include fillers in any of our fresh recipes. All of our recipes are formulated by board-certified veterinary nutritionists to ensure that each recipe is complete and balanced for dogs, exceeding AAFCO standards. Every ingredient is chosen by our ACVNs for their specific nutritional benefit to dogs. None of our current recipes include corn as an ingredient. You may be noticing our chickpeas, which are a great source of Protein, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamins A and C, and more. You can review our full ingredients list included in your box for each of our recipes, please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions at [email protected] 😊

Really wanted to love this foods recipe…
Really wanted to love this dog food but unfortunately it’s made with tons of garbanzo beans (chickpeas). Way too much filler for the price and quality of food I was looking for. Bummer
Response from The Farmer's DogJul 3, 2022
Thank you for your review, JC. All of our recipes are formulated by board-certified veterinary nutritionists to be complete and balanced. Each recipe is mostly meat with vegetables added for their nutritional properties. While we aren't able to remove single ingredients from our recipes, we'll be sure to pass along this feedback to the right department.

Dogs became violently ill
Positives:
•My dogs really did enjoy this food. They were excited for their meals and the chicken seemed to be good for them.
•Customer service is super responsive, even if they don’t seem to have a great system of communication between agents. I was contacted three separate times for information I had already provided.
Negatives:
•Both my dogs became VIOLENTLY ILL after trying the turkey recipe. I’m talking vomit, bloody diarrhea, dehydration, the whole shebang. Spent almost $900 and almost all of Father’s Day at the emergency vet because they were soooo sick. Yes, my dogs have sensitive tummies, but this was not just a little tummy trouble. This had to be some sort of food poisoning or bacteria from the food. (And yes, the food was frozen solid when I received it and was still super, super cold when I fed it to them.)
•While I did receive a refund for the next shipment, the whole thing could have been avoided if the time between the trial and the first normal size box was longer. By the time I opened the package of turkey, the deadline to make changes to my next order had already passed…a mere 4 days after I received my trial. So now I’m stuck with 18 packages of food that can’t be used or eaten, because there is no way I’m donating it. Not risking violent illness on other dogs.

Thank you for this feedback, Kellie. We were so very sorry to hear that your dogs were feeling unwell. Rest assured, food safety is of the utmost importance to us and we have several standard operating procedures to ensure that there's no opportunity for contamination of our food. We cook and package all of our food in a USDA-certified kitchen, where only human-quality food is produced. With that certification comes rigorous inspections, health codes, and ingredient standards that we're required to meet. We also pay strict attention to the temperature and nutritional integrity of our ingredients throughout the entire cooking cycle, eliminating any possibility for harmful bacterial growth. In addition, we're registered with the Department of Agriculture and formulate all our recipes to meet AAFCO requirements.
We hope this helps to ease some of your concerns but please let us know if you have any other questions. We see you were recently in touch with our Customer Experience department, but we'd be happy to also put you in touch with a specialist on our team. You can reply to your existing email thread if you'd like further assistance. Thank you, Kellie.

I am actually giving this company a -10 stars
I am actually giving this company a -10 stars! My original review stated that I was not reviewing the actual food itself, but the packaging. The food comes packaged in long plastic tubes that are sealed on both ends. I am only speaking for my own individual experience that I have cerebral palsy that affects my left side including my hand, so for me, handling this packaging was very difficult. For a person with 2 hands you probably would not give it a second thought. So, after trying the trial package I decided I will not be ordering any more of the food, solely because of the packaging issue and NOT because of lack of food quality. BUT, what REALLY angered me was when I went to cancel my subscription, their website proceeds to ask a ton of questions not only about WHY I am cancelling, but about what kind of food I am going to be switching back to and what brands I intend to use and such! To the Farmer's Dog... What I intend to do and what brands I decide to buy other that YOUR food is NONE of your concern and is the reason I am giving you a -10 (Negative 10) rating!
