My experience with Somewhere was seamless. I was contacted via email about a job opportunity, and I was given the support I needed at all the different stages of the process till I was hired. The staff at Somewhere are really nice and supportive as well.

I regret to say that Support Shepherd (or Somewhere) has one of the most illogical and frustrating hiring processes I’ve encountered. Their insistence on rigid, outdated typing tests and misplaced emphasis on English comprehension over actual job skills makes it clear they don’t understand how to evaluate qualified professionals. The Absurd Typing Test Gatekeeping: They disqualify highly skilled, experienced candidates for being a mere 3-5 words per minute (WPM) short* of their arbitrary typing speed requirement. Real-world work isn’t a typing race, accuracy, problem-solving, and expertise matter far more than raw speed. Yet they reject capable professionals in favour of meaningless metrics. Despite their unreasonably high testing barriers, the compensation offered is mediocre at best, especially for roles demanding such "perfection". Needless to say, Somewheres' hiring practices aren’t just flawed they’re rooted in outdated, prejudiced assumptions about talent outside the West. Their approach reeks of condescension, from absurd skill assessments to insulting pay scales that presume African professionals live in poverty. Offering $800-$ 1,800/month for roles they’d pay $3,000+ to a U.S. hire isn't a “market adjustment” it’s exploitation! Their assumption that African candidates ”don’t need living wages” (do they think we lack electricity, Rent, and Families?) is racially tinged nonsense. NEWSFLASH! Nairobi, Lagos, and Johannesburg have skyscrapers, not mud huts. Pay should reflect skill, not geography. Somewhere is a case study in how remote work can replicate colonial exploitation. If you’re a skilled African professional, avoid this circus. Your expertise deserves respect and pay that doesn’t assume you’re a charity case.
