As a person that rarely uses insurance, I can say that my experience with Sidecar Health over the past year has been super positive. The monthly premium is budget-friendly, and the website allows me to know what insurance will cover before I go to the doctor. The really cool feature is on the phone app, where I can see what other people have paid for their service at a particular doctor, which really helps with the decision process. Low premiums, transparent benefits, and no surprises. I shouldn't have to stress out about going to the doctor, and Sidecar allows me to know what I'm getting into before I leave the house.

Great product...the way paying for health care should be. I love the transparency and flexibility and knowing what my benefits are BEFORE needing care. Could not be happier being a Sidecar member knowing me and my family can see any doctor with no restrictions of a network. Affordable premiums and having the ability to earn money back by being smart on shopping for care is a plus! I highly recommend Sidecar to anyone looking for a simple and logical approach to health care.

Don't let this 3 stars fool you. I haven't purchased Side Car YET... I see a lot of great reviews here but nobody is talking about how this actually works. From what I am gathering from their Website Chat is that you use the credit card they give you. Say the doctor visit is $100 and they cover $100... They actually pay $100 BUT 20% of that just came out of your checking account right then. You have to upload the receipts and if all goes well, they credit that 20% back to you. Therefore, the way I see it is, you have to make sure you have money in your checking account because you will get a 20% withdraw. Anyone want to make some reviews on your experience with that? Also, say you need surgery. How much of that will they pull out of your checking? That could be 1K or 10K overnight. Anyone want to shed some light on how something like that worked? I'm interested in this, but these reviews seem to good to be true with nobody mentioning the 80/20 split.

Thanks for your comment. You are correct that when the debit card is used without prior notice to us, Sidecar Health provides you with a temporary advance of benefit in the form of 80% of the total charge, while the remaining 20% is paid by your chosen personal payment method. Once you upload a picture of the itemized bill, we can calculate your actual benefits and reconcile any differences from the estimate. This is meant as a benefit for our members and is completely optional. We try to be upfront about this optional feature on our site and via customer care, but apologies if we aren’t clear enough. Of course if you would prefer not to take advantage of that service, you are welcome to pay for service on a personal payment method and submit a bill, and then we can simply mail you a check for the full benefit amount. Alternatively, you can submit a pre-bill or estimate of charges from your provider beforehand and we can authorize the card to dispense the full benefit amount on swipe, without any 80/20 estimates. As far as large charges go, uploading pre-bills is standard practice for any charges above $2,500 so we can make sure you are aware of how much your plan will pay before you incur the expense. So your example (a $10K bill etc.) doesn’t happen. Please reach out if you have any other questions!

This is a great company for someone like me who does not get their insurance through their company. They take a new, innovative approach to health insurance. There quoting tool was a no brainer, and very user friendly. And, the best thing is their pricing was extremely affordable.

After calling and speaking with one of your representatives and making sure of what was expected on my part for ANY doctor visit or procedure and staying within Sidecar budget and putting in my claims of $395 and waiting for over 2 months and 7 phone calls later still nothing. I have paid over $1500 in premiums...needless to say Sidecar is not working for me. Thank Ann for all your help today. You are the only one who finally tried solving my questions.
