Sidecar Health may not be for everybody - if someone isn't willing to do any research or legwork and just wants the easiest path and least responsibility then they probably won't have a good experience. Speaking from my experience though, this is an amazing plan, no other plan rewards you with literally cash back for choosing lower cost providers or prescriptions. It's the best of both worlds - for care that is shoppable I can choose any doctor I want and if I choose a high cost doctor I pay the difference, but if I shop around and choose a low cost doctor I get cash back. Let me repeat that - *I get cash back* from my health insurance - on top of my doctor visit being 100% covered. I'm a bargain shopper, so my wife's, my kids', and my healthcare costs have always been covered 100% plus I've made hundreds and even thousands of dollars per year in cash back for shopping smart and choosing low cost care since we switched to Sidecar from UHC. But the one time I had to go to the ER and wasn't able to shop around, I didn't have to pay a dime (after my deductible was met) because they cover 100% of emergency care so I have total peace of mind for myself and my family. This is the future, if healthcare in America is save-able, this is the model that will save it. Last but not least, their member care team is world class, one of the best I've ever dealt with in any industry (comparable with AmEx). I can't recommend highly enough.

They randomly change benefit amounts without notice. Making it hard to properly plan care. My medicine changed randomly despite being the same cost for first 8 months of the year. Losing trust in this insurer. Hoping to be proven wrong but this among other changes and premium increases, hard to seek to stay with them. They simply reply “they review their benefit amounts and make changes based on their costs”. But still can’t explain why they feel no need to warn insurers.

I’m extremely happy with the Customer Service and overall experience with Sidecar Health! Hoping to continue to have this coverage in the future through my employer!!! If not I’d be willing to seek out an individual plan if there’s an opportunity to do so. Thank you!

This insurance is probably great for young healthy people. If you have a chronic illness, this insurance is terrible. It's like a full time job keeping up with this. And even if you can get everything submitted you still can't use it half the time.

This is horrible coverage. They will low ball every procedure and appointment. They will review a good faith estimate, which takes 5-30 business days. In my case, I was told to cancel a procedure because it was outside of their budget. They promised to supply a list of options that would be more cost effective, however at the last minute claimed they could not find any options. I was directed to stick with the appointment they told me to cancel. Which delayed the appointment by almost a month. If your company goes with this coverage, decline it or find another job. I’d rather have no coverage than have this scam.

Sidecar Health doesn't decide when or where a member gets care. For every service, we show a clear Benefit Amount based on the typical local cost where the member lives, and at least half of providers are at or below it. For services that aren't easily shoppable in the app, like a surgery or procedure, a member can get an estimate from the provider they want and send it to us. We compare it to the Benefit Amount and share the comparison with the member. If it's higher, we provide at least one option at or below the Benefit Amount. Members without a provider in mind can have us do the shopping for them, and we'll give them options, with one always at or below the Benefit Amount. With no network restrictions and transparent costs, members can choose any provider they'd like and know what they'll pay in advance, or earn for choosing lower-cost care.

I have had this insurance for two yrs now and just had a major surgery! It has been less stressful with the guided assistance of a Sidecar rep. He (Javiar) was there to support me every step of the way. Yes, you have to do some "leg work" of obtaining/submitting invoices etc. but it is worth it in the end! It can be confusing in the beginning because we are so use to traditional insurance. Once you stop apporaching it as the same or "what you're use to", it is much easier to navigate. There should be no hidden surprise charges when you handle things correctly and know your employers plan. This is the only "insurance" where I've received yearly reimbursements. Always get a selfpay rate quote before any service & make sure the facility/provider/pharm. knows that you will need an itemized invoice as soon as possible, this will save you a lot of time! When people see the difference in what is being charged to traditional insurance vs what's charged for selfpay it becomes very clear why traditional premiums are truly unaffordable.
