From the very start I'd like to warn everyone from Europe about very high import duties. I paid roughly 450 USD/436 EUR for the dress, shipping was around 24 EUR. Import duties came to 182 EUR which puts it at 40 % of the total cost of the dress. All together it cost me 642 EUR. However, shipping was super fast. Shipped on Monday from China and arrived on Wednesday morning at 10:00. I wouldn't mind one bit but the dress came in a sad little cardboard box, crumpled up in a garment bag hung on a hanger labeled "Selkie". The finish on the hanger was scratched to oblivion. When I took out the dress I certainly didn't have a feeling of a dress that cost aforementioned 642 EUR. The dress feels like a halloween store knock off of something Selkie would produce. It is a definition of an "Instagram dress" - looks good in a picture but god forbid you see it with your own eyes. When I unpacked the dress I sighed because I knew that no matter what I think of the dress it already cost me WAY too much to even get here and the thought of me going through the nightmare of returning it made me swallow the fact I just spent almost 650 EUR for a dress that should be half of that INCLUDING import duties. And I've seen some people mention the fact that it is made in China. Well, that is not the issue of the horrendous quality. I have gowns from Chinese companies, for example Punk Rave that also does floor length dresses and gowns and those are 1) way cheaper 2) better constructed 3) made from better materials. Selkie is riding the social media hype around them made by influencers. Us, poor peasants are funding the dresses for the influencers because you will not tell me the dress I received did not cost maybe $80 tops to make. The rest is an awful mark up by the company. So to put it all together, I took my loses, will NEVER order from Selkie again. And I will make sure that everyone around me knows to definitely NOT order from this brand ever again. Please, look into alternatives, save your money and your disappointment. I should've gotten a seamstress that would construct me such a dress. It would be a bit more expensive but at least I wouldn't feel like banging my head against the wall for being so naïve and ordering from this company.

I just bought my first selkie dress during a sale. I'm usually a medium, ocassionally a large. I purchased a medium and it was very big. Also the material seemed very cheap for a dress that's normally $350. The exchange process however, was very easy. I exchanged it for a small, but had a very hard time zipping it up. The materials on the dress seem very cheap for the price. I love the designs but won't be buying from them again. Buy Vixen or La femme en noir for beautifully made dresses that aren't fast fashion.

Only giving two stars because I received one of my items and was refunded for the other one. I placed an order two weeks ago for two items that match and very clearly are meant to be worn together (they’re even modeled together on the site). The first item shipped immediately and arrived within 4 days. The second item still said processing. After two weeks my order still hadn’t shipped. I reached out to customer service 3 times total to ask about the order. They responded quickly the first & second time, but the second time they said they would look into why my dress hadn’t been shipped and then just didn’t respond. When they responded a 3rd time, they told me that the dress was out of stock and immediately refunded me. No asking if I wanted the dress in a different size, no communication about it— nothing. While they offered me 25% off my next purchase as well, there’s no way in hell I’m going to trust creating a whole new order for them to possibly not send that either, because they neglected to tell me that they don’t have the item. It would have made more sense to ask if I wanted another item of the same price, rather than immediately refunding me, considering I now own an overskirt with no dress to match it. Why even send me the dress’s matching item if you knew you did not have the dress? I feel scammed by this company. At least I was refunded, but it’s really shoddy when a customer has to reach out to the company, rather than the company reaching out to rectify the situation and explain they’re lacking inventory, BEFORE shipping half the dress/order. They continuously run sales and keep dropping new items, but don’t bother to check their inventory. Many people do get their items, sure. However, I found by checking Facebook that they do have a habit of keeping customers in the dark for weeks before letting them know they don’t have their items in stock.

Pretty but the fabric is poor and the quality is horrendous!! A plastic zip on a $400+ dress is poor and the seems are already coming apart after 2 wears. And the bodysuit is far too small compared to the dress size, as well as the bust area is so small if you're over a B-cup don't even try getting the girls in. And the CEO says they will use AI and not support artist and designers.

While I absolutely love the dress, the process in trying to exchange the dress for one size up has been very disappointing. I have emailed them 3 times. The portal they send me to, does not let me submit my exchange. I finally texted the customer service number( they don’t take calls) and was told I could not submit my exchange. But yet again, it does not work. For purchasing a dress for $250, I would expect the customer service to be much better. Again, I love the dress and would have bought more, but because of the customer service, I don’t think I will. I bought the dress beginning on march. It’s the end of march and still have no resolution on how to exchange the dress.

Awful! The sizing of their dresses runs small, even though I measured myself AND have purchased other dresses elsewhere with the same measurements. Being in Canada, they make it hard to return and force you to pay to ship it back. Plus, $200 in customs fees, gone. The dresses are beautiful, but for the price you pay, the garment bag and packaging feels cheap. It was similar to my $150 Azazie dress, while this was a $600 dress.

Completely disheartened. You know that gorgeous black Marie Antoinette dress? The Caviar Marie. It’s stunning in the photos. In real life, more like shocking disappointment. It does arrive looking nearly the same as pictured but the fabric is such poor quality; stiff, heavy, not breathable, uncomfortable, and makes no sense why it’s used on a dress. Especially one that costs $249. It feels like a bad costume made of table linens. Not real clothing. (I’ve been cosplaying and making costumes for theatre’s for over 20 years and I’d never use such poor quality fabric as this dress is made of) Equally bad, the sizing is WRONG. Originally I went up a bit more than my measurements to “be safe” and chose Large. The zipper wouldn’t close midway, though there definitely was adequate room (albeit less than the website measurements). I returned it, fast and easy, for an even bigger XL, which should have been significantly oversized on me. About a week later what arrived was surprisingly a SMALLER FITTING DRESS that was tight, with yet another cheap zipper that sticks badly midway. Truly I did not want to give up such a pretty looking dress but the poor quality of fabric, cheap zippers, and incorrect sizing, was not worth it. I have owned my share of high end designer pieces in my lifetime and I expected at the very least decent mid-range quality for all the hype. The only praise I can give is for the exchange and return process. Begrudgingly I returned this little “dream dress” hassle free, for a refund (minus shipping). I sincerely wanted this dress. As it stands, I’m sorry to share that unless they fix those issues I absolutely do not recommend Selkie to anyone.

let me just say -- i *love* selkie's dresses. it's just unfortunate that they can use cheap fabrics, also while not being sustainable, and still charge $245 for a single mini puff dress. in addition, their rewards system is broken -- or it has been since my last 2 purchases; i've since decided to swear off selkie. i own 4 dresses from selkie -- it was 6, but i sold 2. i know that if i'm paying $245 - $399 for a single dress, they can afford to add loops for hanging the dresses properly (hanging their dresses by the sleeves *will* damage the elastic overtime) or at the bare minimum, lining so they aren't sheer. but selkie doesn't care because any pretty dress they make will sell.
