This door is a game changer
As much as I love my chicken run door, their customer service is equally helpful. I love that this door opens with the sunrise OR preset preferred time OR manually and closes the same. My family used to be early risers and opening the coop was never difficult but over the last couple years my family has evolved into a waking pattern between 7 and 8am. That's not incredibly late but I want my hens to enjoy as much time out of their coop as possible, so having this chicken run door has allowed me to sleep peacefully knowing that the girls can start their day without me. This is my first year with the door and over the winter I found that the plastic that I wrap my run with for wind protection was causing the door to open late - it's a frosted clear plastic. But this door has that wonderful timer setting - so I was able to go out one morning and manually program the door to open with the sunrise. Before I manually set it, I was still able to press the button to manually open the door when I went out to feed/ water. Closing the door is equally flexible and convenient. I prefer to manually close my door at night, I can do a head count, gather eggs, and wish everyone a good night (I'm sure I'm not the only one, haha). But I also can rest assured that the door will close after sunset if I'm unable to get there or if I do my chores early. Like today - it started snowing at 3:00 so I went out to let my sheep into their stall and checked for eggs in the coop - now I'll let the chicken run door close itself. The flexibility that this door gives me is priceless. So, fast forward, my door started eating batteries and I couldn't figure out why. At first I thought our deep freeze temperatures did it - and maybe it did, the first time. But then it happened multiple times following that and we weren't dealing with extreme temps anymore. So I reached out to customer service and they were more than helpful walking me through the corrections needed! It turns out that I had debris stuck at the bottom of my track and the door wasn't closing properly. I now have a small pick that stays in my run so that I can regularly be sure my track stays clear. I fully expect this solution to correct my battery issue but I suppose time will tell. I'm confident that if I have any other hiccups, I can reach out to the support team for assistance.
