My experience was very positive. The pups were well cared for and we received pictures each day. I do think the cost is extremely high.

The app is NOT great. I struggled for over a week with customer service to get my new acccount linked to my old one. Was totally ridiculous. BUT I love the concept and I LOVE my dog walker. So there’s that.

Excellent, because the sitter was calm, easy going, and my rather nervous dog, who is uncertain in new situations, settled right in without evident anxiety or stress behaviors.

Two years on this platform. 4.9 rating. Zero warnings, zero complaints, zero prior safety incidents. Closed by email, with no appeal, no phone call, and no engagement with a single piece of evidence I submitted. Here is exactly what happened, so other sitters can decide for themselves. A client I had worked with contacted me directly by text and proposed paying cash to avoid Rover's fees. He referenced the platform rate in the same message, so he knew precisely what he was avoiding. I agreed. That was a breach of Rover's terms and I am not going to pretend otherwise — I disclosed it to Trust & Safety myself, in writing. Before the stay I asked the client directly whether his dog could get out of the yard. He said no: the fence was high enough, and the dog had an injured leg and could not jump. His instruction was to leave the back door open during the day so the dog could come and go, and to close it at night only to keep rats out. There was no collar and no ID tag, because the owner never provided one and never raised it. I had no reason to think one was needed on his own property, since I had been told the dog could not leave it. On the final night the dog was asleep beside me until roughly 3:30 AM. At 5:14 AM he barked to be let out, I opened the door to the yard, and he was back inside and settled within twenty minutes. In the morning a neighbour came to the door and said the dog had been out all night chasing a bear. That was the first I had heard of any of it. I submitted everything to Trust & Safety. The complete text history. Two photographs with original files and verifiable capture times, showing the dog asleep indoors at 3:48 AM and again at the same morning — both flatly incompatible with the claim that he was outside all night. I met three different neighbours over those two days and none of their accounts matched each other either. I also noted that once he raised the accusation, the client instructed me by text to pack my things, leave food and water out, and leave the house. I did exactly that, secured the property and left the key on the table. I did not abandon the booking. I left because I was told to. Rover's investigator asked me five questions. I answered all five in writing, in detail, with attachments. The closure letter that followed does not address one of them. It does not mention the photographs. It does not mention the contradictions in the client's account. It restates the allegation as though it were established fact and closes the file. Here is what I think sitters need to understand about this company. The review process is not an investigation into what happened. It is an assessment of Rover's liability. When a booking sits off-platform, Rover has no insurance exposure and no booking record to defend, so removing the sitter costs them nothing and closes the matter. Evidence does not enter into that calculation. Your rating does not either. Two years of commission buys you exactly no benefit of the doubt. And note who bore the consequences. The client proposed the off-platform arrangement in writing. The client misrepresented his property. The client has never paid Rover a cent. He walks away untouched, still able to book sitters. I lost two years of work, my entire review history, and my access to my own booking records — for being the one who told the truth in full, including the part that hurt me. My advice to sitters: Get every claim about the property in the Rover message thread in writing before you accept — fence security, containment, whether the animal can jump, collar and ID status. Verbal assurances at a meet-and-greet are worth nothing when the file lands on someone's desk. Back up your reviews, booking history and earnings records now. Do not wait. You lose access the moment they decide, not when they inform you. And understand what you are actually buying with your commission. It is not support. It is not a fair hearing. It is search placement, and that is all. I want to be plain about how this feels from where I'm standing. A man I had known for a matter of weeks accused me of lying, talked down to me, produced nothing, changed his own story twice in his own messages, and Rover took his word over mine, over my rating, over two years of commission, and over photographs with timestamps he cannot argue with. HE PAID THIS COMPANY NOTHING. I PAID IT THOUSANDS. And when it came to deciding which of us to believe, none of that counted for anything. I am not disappointed. I am furious, and I intend to stay that way. I will be telling every person I know, sitter and pet owner alike, exactly what happens here when a client decides to lie about you. This app is nothing but a headache and it does not deserve the people who work for it.
