Rover.com had multiple pet sitters available in my general area, which surprised me due to my location on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The sitter, Heather, responded promptly to my request to book, came for a meet and greet that same week and was able to care for our cat while we were away. She was pleasant, professional, responsible, a good communicator and engaged well with our pet.

Four Years as a Sitter Ended With Vague Answers
I am extremely disappointed with how Rover handled the investigation and eventual removal of my account. I do not believe the process was handled fairly, thoroughly, or transparently.
When it comes to an “investigation” that can ultimately result in permanently removing a sitter from the platform, I believe there should be more personal, one-on-one communication. Instead, my experience consisted mainly of phone calls and emails. Whenever I received a call, I was often simply asked to verify my name, with very little meaningful information or explanation provided afterward. I was left without clear answers regarding exactly what was being investigated, what findings were made, and how Rover reached its final decision.
After approximately four years of caring for pets, the number of incidents involving dogs in my care was fewer than 10. Many of the concerns involved relatively minor issues such as diarrhea associated with stress or a change in environment, minor scratches or small nips that can occur during normal dog interactions and play, or environmental/allergy-related symptoms. While I understand that every incident involving an animal should be taken seriously, not every medical or behavioral issue that occurs during a stay is necessarily caused by negligence or something a sitter could reasonably prevent.
What has been especially frustrating is feeling that the same level of concern and support was not extended to me as a sitter. I previously reported an incident involving a client’s dog attempting to bite me, yet my report was rejected and I did not receive meaningful follow-up regarding what happened. Experiences like this made me feel that my safety and perspective were not being given the same consideration.
I understand and respect Rover’s responsibility to protect pets and pet parents. However, sitters are also an important part of the platform and deserve appropriate support, communication, and an opportunity to be heard—especially after years of providing services through Rover.
If Rover is going to conduct an investigation with consequences as significant as permanent account removal, there should be a genuine two-way investigation. Sitters should have an opportunity to speak directly with someone handling their case, explain the circumstances surrounding each incident, provide supporting information or documentation, answer questions, and understand the evidence and reasoning behind the final decision.
I do not feel that I received the level of support or transparency that I deserved throughout this process. Even if Rover ultimately decides to maintain its decision, I believe I am entitled to a clear and detailed explanation of why my account was removed rather than vague statements, limited phone conversations, and emails that leave important questions unanswered.
I hope Rover seriously considers improving its investigation and appeals process so that both pet parents and sitters are treated fairly, respectfully, and consistently.
