CONSUMER COMPLAINT AGAINST RELIANT ENERGY
CONSUMER COMPLAINT AGAINST RELIANT ENERGY Prepared By: Steven Moning Dallas, Texas I am filing this complaint regarding what I believe are unfair and aggressive billing and electric service disconnection practices by Reliant Energy. Despite making two payments within a single month, my electric service was still disconnected. My reported electricity usage at the time was approximately 13 kW, making the shutoff appear excessive and unreasonable compared to the actual level of usage. This experience caused financial hardship, emotional stress, inconvenience, and concern that the company may prioritize fees and penalties over fair customer treatment. My concerns include: 1. Aggressive Service Disconnection Practices Reliant disconnected my electricity despite active payment efforts and multiple payments being made during the billing cycle. Customers attempting to pay their bills should not face abrupt disconnection while trying to maintain their accounts. 2. Excessive Fees and Financial Pressure The company’s practices appear to create additional financial burdens through: - Reconnection fees - Late fees - Deposit demands - Repeated payment pressure These practices can heavily impact working families, elderly individuals, and consumers already experiencing financial difficulty. 3. Consumer Harm Electric service is essential in Texas due to extreme heat and weather conditions. Disconnection of service can create: - Health and safety risks - Stress and anxiety - Food spoilage - Missed work opportunities - Additional financial hardship 4. Public Concern Based on my experience, consumers should carefully review Reliant Energy’s billing terms, disconnection policies, fee structures, and complaint history before choosing this provider. I respectfully request review of this matter by: - Texas Public Utility Commission (PUCT) - Better Business Bureau (BBB) - Texas Attorney General Consumer Protection Division - ConsumerAffairs - Trustpilot I believe utility providers should operate with fairness, transparency, and reasonable accommodation for customers making good-faith payment efforts. Consumers deserve ethical treatment, accountability, and protection from practices that appear designed to generate revenue through penalties and service interruptions. — Steven Moning Dallas, Texas
