Like most great companies, it all started with an idea. In 1974, Jon and Christel DeHaan set out to add greater value to the timeshare experience when they pioneered the vacation exchange concept. The DeHaans developed a system that allowed owners to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property—delivering a new level of flexibility and choice to timeshare owners and revolutionizing an industry in the process.Today, RCI remains the leader in vacation exchange, offering the world’s largest vacation exchange network and providing unrivaled products and services to enhance the vacation ownership experience. It’s one of the many reasons why more resorts trust RCI to deliver vacation exchange services to its subscribing members than any other company across the globe

I decided to renew my membership with Rci after a few years of using Interval International because Rci was advertising a big sale on extra vacations. I spent $113 to renew and couldn't access the sale. I explained to rep that it kept telling me unavailable. They assured me it would be fixed a few days still can't get on.They offered to book it for me , I explained that I needed to look at what was on sale so we could pick a destination. Was again told it would be fixed. This went back and forth for a week. It was never fixed. Finally I just said never mind I want to cancel and be reimbursed. It was sure cancelled quick. Was told my money would be back on my card in 8 days. Nothing, Then was told it would take 30 days. Nothing . It has been two months!!! I can't believe no one could be bothered to fix the problem so I could use the sight but they could figure out how to cancel it and keep my money. Crooks. Back Interval I go where I am never treated this way. In fact they continually give me free weeks.

We have points expiring at the end of…
We have points expiring at the end of April, which we had planned to use in March, for a hotel booking in Rome, and for a trip away over Easter but we were unable to do so because of Covid 19 and the inability to travel and take holidays. I contacted RCI today to ask if we could have an extension on these points as, obviously, they will not be used before the end of April. The answer was a categorical NO, we must pay £59 to extend the points or lose them! Apparently, the long-term situation of their business is more important than the individual members. RCI has changed enormously since we became members over 20 years ago-and not for the better! Very disappointed by their attitude but not surprised.

RIP OFF - NEVER COMING BACK
I gave RCI $259 for coupon that I had a vacation booked but was cancelled due to virus. RCI gave the coupon an extension until Sep 2020, but my membership ends April 2020. I asked for coupon refund and they will not credit my card back. I must pay them another $99 membership (1) year now or in Sept PLUS $45 late fee to regain membership.....SO, $144 dollars to use a coupon THAT I ALREADY PAID FOR. What a rip off company. It's like stealing what is not theirs to keep and holding customers hostage for more money to use what already belongs to them. RCI should be ashamed to take advantage of people due to no fault of their own. Stay away from RCI as they will not do the right thing for their customers when it counts. RCI will lose far more by taking my $259...........GREED never wins in the end.
You can assist me by refunding my money your holding for doing nothing. I have received no benefit from activating the coupon.... you have not earned what you have taken from me and only can will “assist” me if I give RCI more money.... scam!

POOR TREATMENT WHILE IN A PANDEMIC CRISIS
I called to cancel my vacation due to Covid-19 on March 18. At that time, I asked if there was a provision for covid-19 and the person (man) said no but he said I would receive a check in 3-7 days. NO CHECK. I called back and was told I would not get any money but would get a coupon for future use. I explained that my RCI account would end in August of 2020, my husband has a pore-existibng condition and we would not re-new at the time. So, I said I wan ted my money back due to a pandemic, crisis situation we will not be traveling for a long time. The women that I spoke with said,"Don't you know a friend who can use". I repeated to her that my account would end in August 2020, so NO. We are unhappy with the treatment of RCI. member 407304193

Avoid RCI and Wyndham
I decided to cancel my vacation the day 3 TSA agents were tested positive for COVID-19 at San Jose (my airport). Southwest cancellation, no problem. RCI informed me that it was too late, so I asked to speak with a supervisor. Her advice, cancel with the resort and call back in a few days. The resort cancelled with no problem. Before I called back, I got an email from Wyndham (RCI’s owner) stating that cancellations at least 24 hours in advance would be honored. Calling RCI, the agent sent two explanation emails to someone who denied the cancellation and I was informed that I could not speak to that individual. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told I would be called back. No call arrived. Since the resort reservation was cancelled, the reservation cost RCI nothing, so they just kept my money. My advice, avoid RCI and Wyndham at all costs.
RCIs response to this post asked me to call them back, but the phone number just routed me back to the normal reservations desk who could not make any decisions. I asked to speak to a supervisor again and am waiting for a call back. We'll see.

37 year members - screwed again!
We have been RCI members since the 80's. I recently (March 16th, 2020) booked a week vacation for my daughter, using points that expire on Apr. 30 this year. We have never missed a maintenance period and have maintained our membership with RCI - that's a lot of $$$ over almost 40 years.
In any case, I paid the (outrageous) exchange fee of $335 and was charged an extra $125 for a 'guest certificate' for my daughter, even though her name is listed as an owner also on our paperwork. Less than a week later, the resort closed and cancelled our reservation, saying to contact RCI for any refund. Cool....
However, under the 'flexible' cancellation accommodations that RCI is operating under - given these unprecedented times - all we got was a 'credit of exchange fees' which may/may not include the guest fee, to be used under the current expiration time for the points, and our membership, which, in our case, is April 30th!... even if we could travel, or my daughter could travel, which is highly unlikely, where are we going to use the 'credit' or our points at this late date?
I called RCI, and even requested the situation to be escalated but was completely shut down with "there are NO exceptions' to the policy!
At this time, we have invested the $800 or so dollars in maintenance fees for the points in our account (from 2018), and now an additional $460 for an exchange cancelled by RCI/Resort, and because they 'have offered a credit', under the global credit card rules, I am unable to even enter a dispute against the $460 charge to my c/c!! It doesn't seem to matter that the form of credit is worthless to me, the rules protect the merchant=RCI.
This is the same thing that allows the airlines to offer credits now to be 'fair' in the time of COVID 19, but any residual amount is forfeit, or why they can still charge outrageous cancellation fees. I digress...
Should I be thanking RCI for not charging me an additional $50 to cancel my reservation... Unbelievable...
But, on the upside, as of the 2020, the 40 year 'ownership' is at an end, and while we still love our home resort, we have opted not to continue our timeshare association so as to be out of our obligations and association with RCI. It's cheaper, and easier to rent there, than it is to remain an RCI member.
So, RCI - you have screwed us for the last time... obviously, it's been good for you - sorry we can't say the same!
April 11, 2020 - While I appreciate you taking the time to respond, there is nothing in your message that is different from the 'canned response' I got over the phone. Your generic approach to every client is no where near what is needed to fully support your members. Every situation warrants some personal attention and resolution because 1 is different from the others and a 'one size fits all' response in the time of COVID 19 craziness is just lazy and dispassionate. If you were really concerned and wanting to be 'flexible' as your policies suggest, you wouldn't be charging more $$ to extend points and booking deadlines and membership dates. My long held view is validated - RCI's singular focus is to get every possible cent out of its members just because they can. Well, I'm really done paying for nothing! Time for RCI to move along with the times... Annual membership fees should cover all exchange fees! Stop the nickel & dime money grabbing business practices and put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is, improve your customer service, truly be 'flexible' and stop trying to take more $$ from your customers to provide services they have already paid for many times over.
Not impressed.

I had a reservation at Coronado Beach Resort that had to be cancelled because of the Corona Virus. They are closing their resort. I have booked with RCI times, but this is the only decent resort I have booked. RCI refuses to return my exchange fee; they want to give me a credit instead. Everyone else is giving full refunds.

Company issues
We have been members of Rci now for over 20 years in that time I have had numerous issues with staff giving different information, the staff training needs to be reviewed as well as how they deal with travel issues! especially around these times of global issues.
I would find it very difficult to recommend anyone becoming a member of RCI. Also I agree where is the CEO of RCI ?
