Like most great companies, it all started with an idea. In 1974, Jon and Christel DeHaan set out to add greater value to the timeshare experience when they pioneered the vacation exchange concept. The DeHaans developed a system that allowed owners to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property—delivering a new level of flexibility and choice to timeshare owners and revolutionizing an industry in the process.Today, RCI remains the leader in vacation exchange, offering the world’s largest vacation exchange network and providing unrivaled products and services to enhance the vacation ownership experience. It’s one of the many reasons why more resorts trust RCI to deliver vacation exchange services to its subscribing members than any other company across the globe

If you are a member of RCI time share ( global travel) beware of reservations over seas during these covid times. They are profiting under the cicumstances of keeping your fees ( the exchange fee and guest fees)
associated with your reservation cancelation.
The destination counry may not be closed at this time, which is a requirement to a refund) but the hoops you need to go thru makes it very difficult to comply to enter the country during these times to enjoy a vaction.
Further more RCI will make a exception (if you complain) to credit you the exchange fee if you rebook another vacation within 2 months. Dont you love stipulations. And I just love how you cant get a word in edgewise to voice your disbelief or unhappiness with a supervisor or mangement. Thank you so much RCI.

Horrible resorts with less than quality service, food, staff, not enough room to list the horrible experience in Cabo San Jose, Mexico.
From the pick-up at the airport to the watered down food, drinks (didn’t even know you could water down guacamole and nacho cheese but they found a way) to the less than concierge assistance, RCI resorts are like staying in a third world country. Could not wait to leave and actually left a day early. Do not recommend at all. Main customers appear to be locals and the older folks that were taken advantage of.

Hi Nic. RCI does not own or manage any resort properties. We are sorry to hear about your experience on vacation, but RCI only acts as your exchange company. We hope you have better vacations with us in the future.

I've had my timeshare since 1997
I've had my timeshare since 1997. Really enjoyed going to the resort in Cabo. Family issues came up this year forcing me to tighten my budget and voluntarily cancel my membership. During that process I had to pay my maintenance fees current and pay $820 to de-enroll in RCI. I was told that my fees included a week at the resort and, that I will be receiving a voucher for that week along with a copy of the cancellation transaction. Fast forward almost 9 weeks later... I called RCI today to ask about the transaction paperwork and the voucher I have yet to receive. A very nice lady took care of me. However, when she asked her supervisor about the voucher, she was told to inform me that I should have asked for the voucher before I paid the fee. I was told the exact opposite at the time of my transaction. Typical bait and switch scam. Very sad because, even with the exorbitant maintenance fees, I would have left a more positive feedback for most of my experiences with RCI over the years. If this is who they are now, STAY AWAY!

Hello, you are referring to your ownership, not RCI. RCI does not own or sell timeshares, nor are we responsible for your weeks. RCI simply acts as a means of exchanging your ownership for vacation. The $820 you paid would have been for the timeshare company you purchased through. We apologize for any confusion.

Tired of Nickel and Dime fees.
We decided to cancel five days in Pompano Beach, FL next month because the current COVID issues in that area. Because it was so close to the travel date, realized we would loose some points, and our exchange fee. To keep points and fee, we opted to buy the points insurance, to retain the points, and save the exchange fee. We also renewed our membership for another year so we could use all the points available. Between the $129 for points insurance, and the $200 fee, we only lost $70. Then looked at our weeks account, to use those weeks also. Well, to combine weeks, there is a charge. For one year, about $150, for two years, about $250. Seriously? So, we have paid the maintenance fee each year for the trading power, our annual membership fee, now, when it’s most likely a click of a button to “combine” trading power, there is another charge. And, I’m assuming, another exchange fee.
I have decided that RCI is doing the nickel and dime routine very well. They make up the “rules, the charges, the trading power.” Then tell us how wonderful this is, you can get more this way, but they are going to charge for it. It can’t be paperwork, it’s all done by computer.
Then there is the Platinum membership. Supposedly bigger and better, so then it’s your regular membership, and another charge for Platinum, so if you do that, it’s two memberships per year, but it’s “added” value.
Maybe try another approach, cut all the fees and extra goodies, create a fair and equitable rate for everyone, and stick with it.

DO NOT USE RCI to deposit your week for…
DO NOT USE RCI to deposit your week for trading power.
Their new business model has INCREASED the exchange fees dramatically (like $599 for 3 nights) for several more desirable properties.
As an example, for the Hotel Cordova in Coronado, CA, a 3 night stay costs 15 points in trading power PLUS $599 in exchange fees. So that is $200/night plus 1/3 of my deposited points for a Hawaii timeshare that costs me 1.7K/yr in maintenance fees.
So I am paying around $375/night when I can go to the hotel's website and simply pay $230/night for a better room without having to deal with RCI memberships, exchange fees, or give up my timeshare deposit.
THIS IS RIDICULOUS and whomever came up with this new business model should be fired!!!
If you want to deposit your timeshare to exchange, go to Interval International where there is a flat fee of $209 for their entire inventory. Their availability probably sucks just as bad as RCI's, but your not getting robbed and spat on all at once.

Hi Mickey. I believe what you are referring to is our Exchange Plus program. Exchange Plus inventory is additional inventory purchased by RCI to share with our members during this difficult time in order to offer additional means of travel. It is an exciting new program we are offering to our members to expand your vacation options. The standard exchange fee is still $249, and includes all inventory deposited by our members, as always. We apologize any for any confusion. Please give us a call if you feel you need additional clarification.
