Marketing vs. Reality: 5-year member moving my money elsewhere
Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union claims to be a "financial cooperative intent on helping members save time, save money and earn money." After being a member for five years, my actual experience reveals a completely different reality.
"Save Time & Money?" I deposited a check drawn from my own account at another bank into my RBFCU account. They pulled the funds 14 days ago, yet they still placed an "extended fraud hold" on my money. I went directly to the branch to resolve it, and I’ve called multiple times—only to be placed on hold for 45 minutes to an hour every single time. Holding cleared funds and wasting hours of a member's time is the exact opposite of what they promise.
"Helping achieve your goals?" Four months ago, I applied for an auto loan. Despite a credit score close to 800 and a 5-year relationship with the credit union, RBFCU denied my application. I went straight to Honda right after, and they approved me immediately at a 2.5% APR.
RBFCU markets itself as a member-focused alternative to traditional banks, but their actions demonstrate extreme bureaucracy, terrible customer support, and a total lack of trust in long-term members. Save yourself the headache and stay away from this institution.

If I could give it ZERO
If I could give it ZERO, I would. Worst customer service experiences of any banking institution I've been a part of: rude staff, egregious wait times, AI/virtual "assistance" which is anything but helpful, etc. I will soon be removing all funds/closing all accounts based on this. As a now-retired peace officer and former military member, I can't recommend this institution in any way. It is supposed to be serving former and current military members but, Lord have mercy, to my fellow warriors, get out!

I have been an RBFCU member for about…
I have been an RBFCU member for about 20 years. They used to be a good credit union where you could call or visit a local branch and be taken care of. That time is long passed. Now, if you have an issue, be prepared to wait for at least 45 minutes to an hour to reach anyone. They give you the option to leave a call-back number so you do not lose your place in line, but if you do, you will not get a call-back, so you have to wait.

1-Available credit on the credit card…
1-Available credit on the credit card account is not updated daily.
2- Cash back rewards on the credit card account are not updated daily either.
3- Poor management,

To call customer service is terrible
To call customer service is terrible. Same the bank change from the way had always done the Ai is hard get to the right department and you don't get talk to anyone about your business. There call center can not help you anymore with your business. I have been a member for over twenty years and I have seen their service go down the last few years
I will be recommending them to anyone anymore.

Auto Loan
This is the first time I am dealing with this CU. They are absolutely terrible in customer service. They have 1% lower rate but make you work and frustrate for 5% worth.

I have been trying to contact RBFCU for…
I have been trying to contact RBFCU for 2 weeks now regarding refinancing my vehicle with them. I've been a member for over 10 years. I moved 4 hours away where there's no branches and yet I still kept this account because I believe that they were a good credit union. Now when you call them you have to enter your account number, your debit card number and all kinds of identifying information before you get to the point of being able to call them and talk to somebody. It's absolutely absurd and ridiculous and not time efficient for people like me who work all day long. Just trying to get a hold of somebody during a small break time. I was going to refi my vehicle with them.. if I can't reach them for some simple information I definitely don't want to have a loan with them. I even tried leaving my number as a call back for a rep to call me back because their lines are so busy all the time and yet no one has called me back 2 weeks now. That's ridiculous. Guess they don't need business. Job security for those who never call me back well you might want to rethink not making your call backs... Time to reevaluate my account and close this one. See ya!!

I would give them 0 stars if possible.

This morning, RFBCU flagged a fraudulent charge on my account, which I am thankful for. Unfortunately, the charge right beforehand from the same company was also fraudulent and RFBCU put it as a "pending" transaction, even though it was hundreds of dollars more than I had in my account (the charges were thousands of dollars each). I understand banks sometimes do this as a courtesy for clients, so I get that, but what followed next was a nightmare.
I submitted a fraud claim online and then called the bank where I was told it could take up to 10 business days to resolve anything and my account would remain at -257.52 until then. As I just got paid today and will not be paid again for another 2 weeks, this is a problem. I was told repeatedly that they would not do anything to rectify it in the short-term even though they knew it was fraud because "only the system can do that" and no one seems to understand how the system works or can do anything on their own without the system.
When I asked for a supervisor, I got to talk to Nick, who told me he totally understood because the same thing has happened to him before. When I asked how he fed his family for 2 weeks or paid bills, he went on to tell me he did not eat at all for 2 weeks and then it got better. I asked how that could be true and then he said he did drink water and finally admitted he ate cheap food. He got very upset when I asked where he stole the food from since you cannot buy cheap food with -257.52. Then he told me that he had "side gigs, like being a personal trainer" and I asked whether I was being blamed for not having side gigs to compensate for times I was robbed. Then he said he would answer no other questions. Basically, we were not in the same situation at all--he pretended not to have money but did, and I actually have money but don't (the charge is still pending).
Another person with RFBCU told me that I could try to take advantage of the courtesy pay and attempt to buy food and maybe it would go through because "the amount it lets you go into the red resets each day and no one knows how much it will let you use". Okay. So I asked how to find out the limit so I could try to stay under it and was told by 3 consequetive people that "only the system knows".
While I understand what happened was not the individual fault of any of these employees, the things I was told were insulting to my intelligence and extremely poor customer service. This financial institution is unethical and does not care about its customers, though this might be because I am not a wealthy customer. Interestingly, I mentioned that their inability or unwillingness to assist me was most likely due to my being poor and none of the three employees even bothered to try and deny that was true, though they did go through the insane mental gymnastics mentioned above. I think that says it all.
In short, they need to change their initials and take out the R, B. and C because their attitude towards their customers is simply "FU".
