Good eve. You don’t know me, but my name is Chad Valley. I owned a company and used Mitch Rotker/owner of Capital Online Auctions LLC to sell my business last year and he screwed me, sold all my equipment and didn’t pay me. He has now partnered with Rasmus auctions and If you look him up on the Maryland court website of Capital Online Auctions LLC, you will see multiple lawsuits but you will also see one lawsuit from the state of Maryland for over $34,000 in unpaid unemployment taxes to the state which has put his business in a standing of not good and then a new lawsuit by the state of Maryland was filed in June 2026 for unpaid income tax of over $276,000 dollars and liens have been placed on Mitch Rotker. I want you to know the kind of person this man is and at this moment he owes me over $30,000 for business transactions between his company and mine that he failed to honor.

Chad, this is now the third review you have posted on the Rasmus Auctions Trustpilot profile regarding the same dispute with Mitch Rotker and Capital Online Auctions LLC.
As we have previously stated, your allegations concern business transactions between you and Capital Online Auctions LLC, not a transaction or service provided to you by Rasmus Auctions.
We understand that you have an ongoing dispute, but repeatedly posting the same allegations against Rasmus Auctions does not change the fact that your complaint is directed at a separate business.
Rasmus Auctions takes legitimate customer feedback seriously. However, our review profile should reflect actual experiences with our company, not be used to repeatedly publicize allegations involving another business.

Extremely Disappointing Experience
Extremely Disappointing Experience — Paid Over $14,000 and Could Not Access My Purchases
My experience with Rasmus Auctions has been one of the most frustrating and damaging business experiences I have ever had. I paid more than $14,000 for auction merchandise, yet I was repeatedly denied a practical way to pick up items I had already purchased and paid for.
My account was disabled by management, which prevented me from logging in to access essential pickup information, including the pickup address for items scheduled for collection. I spent an entire weekend and business day trying to get help through calls, voicemails, text messages, and messages to multiple employees. I received little to no response.
When I finally reached out to sales for help, I was told that the CEO had instructed that all communication must go through the company’s attorney. However, no one would provide the attorney’s name or contact information, and my direct questions about whether I would be allowed to retrieve my paid merchandise were ignored.
This was not a minor customer-service inconvenience. For a business owner, being unable to access inventory that has been fully paid for can create real financial losses, missed jobs, scheduling problems, and damage to customer relationships. The lack of communication, lack of accountability, and apparent unwillingness to provide a straightforward solution were unacceptable.
I expected basic professionalism: clear pickup instructions, a working account, a response to urgent messages, and access to merchandise I had paid for. Instead, I was left without answers while a substantial amount of my money remained tied up.
Based on my experience, I would strongly caution any buyer, especially contractors, resellers, and business owners who depend on timely access to purchased inventory, to carefully document every payment and communication, confirm pickup procedures in writing, and think carefully before trusting Rasmus Auctions with a time-sensitive purchase.
It's been over a month and a half now and I still await gerting my money back and a response from the management.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. Because this review leaves out important circumstances surrounding these transactions, we believe some clarification is necessary.
This matter did not arise simply because your account was disabled after you purchased merchandise. You purchased a substantial amount of material and arrived for removal without the resources necessary to complete the pickup within the required removal period. During the resulting dispute, interactions with our on-site team became confrontational and inappropriate.
Following the suspension of your account, additional accounts were created and used to participate in subsequent Rasmus auctions. Purchases made through those accounts were also not completed or removed as required. At that point, this was no longer a routine customer-service or pickup matter.
Rasmus made multiple efforts to address the situation before determining that further substantive communication regarding the dispute should occur through counsel. Your attorney is welcome to contact Rasmus Auctions directly on your behalf, and we will respond through the appropriate channel.
We understand that you are dissatisfied with the outcome, but we disagree with the characterization that Rasmus simply accepted more than $14,000 and then denied you access to your purchases. Buyers are responsible for complying with the payment and removal requirements associated with each auction, and those requirements apply regardless of the size of the transaction.

AI caused incorrect listings
I've won items at 2 auctions now. The first was one in Maryland, and it was an awesome experience. Scanned our phone, promptly brought our items to us, everything was as expected. They even helped us load our truck, which we weren't expecting but was helpful.
The second experience was... Not that experience. We showed up and gave our name. I included a photo of the listing in my Google review, but the item was listed as quantity 6 of a two pack of boards. We measured and confirmed that 12 of the boards was what we'd need for our space, so we bid on that and won. They provided us with 6 boards total, instead of the 12 you would get if any other website worded a listing in such a way. When I asked them about this, they kept saying 2x3=6, which, while true, didn't apply to this listing, as no where on the listing did they say anything about 3. The woman working there also mentioned that the listings were written by AI and sometimes pick up the wrong numbers.
We brought this up to Rasmus support, and when I told them that if I purchased from Amazon for example, and the listing said pack of 2, and I ordered 6, I would get 12 total boards. The support person told me this was not Amazon. They sided with the sellers. Screenshot of this attached in my Google review.
We had also purchased a sink. They looked around some, then told us someone else had taken it? It was just gone. They would refund us at least, but unfortunately we had also bid on an accessory specifically fitted to that sink. We asked if they could refund us for that as well, since they lost our sink, and they said no, our only options were taking the accessory or forfeiting it.
This was a really frustrating experience all around. I would not recommend this company to anyone. If you have to use the company, I would suggest avoiding any Richmond auctions that list "711 Hospital St, Richmond, VA 23219" as the pickup location. Or at least, don't trust any of the numbers they list.

Casey, thank you for the detailed feedback. We’re glad your first experience with Rasmus was a positive one, but we understand why the Richmond auction left you frustrated.
The quantity issue you described is something we take seriously. Regardless of how a listing is created, quantities and descriptions should be clear enough that a buyer understands exactly what is included before placing a bid. We are continuing to improve our cataloging and quality-control processes, including how technology is used to assist with item descriptions.
We’re also sorry that your purchased sink could not be located at pickup. While we’re glad a refund was provided for the missing item, we understand your concern that the accessory was purchased specifically for that sink and why the two issues were connected from your perspective.
Your feedback regarding both the cataloging and pickup experience at this location will be reviewed with the seller and our team. We appreciate you taking the time to document what happened and provide specific examples that can help us improve.

I purchased 45 plants from Rasmus…
I purchased 45 plants from Rasmus Auctions based on auction listing photographs that depicted healthy, well-maintained plants. The goods delivered were materially different from what was advertised.
I drove six hours round trip to the designated pickup location. On arrival, the plants were staged in an open lot with only partial shade, in direct sun, and the container soil was bone dry — evidence of prolonged neglect and lack of irrigation. More than half of the 45 plants were dead. Several plants I purchased could not be located at all. Of the plants retaining any green foliage, that foliage was brittle and desiccated, indicating advanced heat and drought stress that is frequently unsurvivable even with immediate care.
I advised the on-site staff that I would not accept dead or dying plants and requested a refund. I was referred to K****, identified as the Rasmus representative on site. K**** claimed the plants would “come back to life” once watered. I asked why, if that were true, the plants had not been watered before customer pickup. He offered no explanation. K**** then stated he would refuse a refund on any plant retaining green foliage, regardless of its condition. When I pointed out that the remaining foliage was brittle and dry and reflected likely irreversible damage, he did not respond further and offered no remedy.
Because the merchandise was dead, dying, or missing, and materially not as described in the auction listing, I declined delivery of all 45 plants. Nothing was taken into my possession. I took photographs documenting the condition of the plants. Because the onsite auction staff declined to resolve my problem, I'm having to go through my credit card company to resolve the situation. I'm frustrated with this entire experience and cannot recommend doing business with Rasmus.

Thank you for taking the time to share this experience. We’re sorry the condition of the plants at pickup did not meet your expectations based on the Rasmus Auctions listing.
We take concerns about item condition, missing purchases, and listing accuracy seriously. Given the number of plants involved and the concerns you raised at pickup, we understand why this was a frustrating experience, especially after traveling such a long distance.
We appreciate you documenting the condition and bringing the matter to our attention. We will review the circumstances surrounding this auction and pickup with the appropriate team members so we can better understand what occurred and identify where the process could have been handled differently.

First and last time with Rasmus
First time bidding with Rasmus and likely my last. Disorganized pick up, incorrect lot titles and descriptions, dismissive attitudes. No issues with the auction site or bidding; that went well. I bid on a number of plants from a nursery auction. I specifically selected plants based on the lot titles and descriptions. Photos were acceptable for most of the lots. Upon arriving on time at the pick up window, there was a delay... Again not a major problem but appeared disorganized. I expected my winning lots to be easily identifiable. It took a team of three plus me to find the mostly unmarked plants. I won a specific plant but was handed a completely different one in its place. I raised the issue and was dismissively told the last photo on the lot showed a plant tag with a different name. Unfortunately, based on Rasmus' terms and conditions, the lot titles and descriptions prevail over any photos. Lastly, as the auction house responsible for the lots until pick up, I expected living plants. Most of the plants were dying, dead, or extremely stressed due to lack of watering. Good luck bidding with this auction house.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We’re sorry your first experience with Rasmus Auctions did not meet expectations. Accurate lot descriptions, organized pickups, and professional customer service are important standards for our team.
We understand your concerns regarding the plant identification, the condition of the plants at pickup, and how your questions were handled on-site. Those are legitimate concerns for us to review, particularly when the item received does not appear to match the lot description. We appreciate the detailed feedback and will review this auction and pickup with our team to identify where the process broke down and how we can improve.

This recent site change has not been…
This recent site change has not been smooth. Some initial issues have resolved but there are still problems. Pages do not refresh actively. The contact us feature is inconveniently placed. The text/email notifications are significantly worse than before. The bid feature doesn't allow for adjustments to the max bid.
Response from Rasmus AuctionsSep 16, 2026
Hello Cameron, thanks for reaching out. Can you please clarify what issues you were having with the text/email notifications?

"Extremely disappointed with Rasmus…
"Extremely disappointed with Rasmus Auctions (Laurel location). Purchased a coffee maker that doesn't work at all and a patio umbrella that is broken and missing parts. Even after paying a 20% buyer's premium plus taxes, their customer service refused to assist or offer any refund simply because I was out of town and reported it past their 48-hour window. Terrible customer service and zero quality control on advertised items."
Response from Rasmus AuctionsSep 2, 2026
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry the items did not meet your expectations. Rasmus Auctions works to provide accurate auction listings and a clear process for addressing items that are damaged or materially different from their description.
Because auction items are sold on behalf of individual sellers and pickups occur on specific schedules, any issues must be reported within the stated return period so our team has an opportunity to address them. Unfortunately, this issue was reported after that period had passed. We understand that being out of town made that difficult and appreciate you sharing your experience.

I have been a loyal bidder for years BUT...
I have been a loyal bidder for years at Rasmus. I've had broken and inaccurate items a handful of times but I was able to be refunded after jumping through a few small hoops. The pickup staff even know me by name.
HOWEVER, all that changed when I went to pick up my item at the Laurel location back in June. There was no Rasmus representative on-site so the warehouse guys were checking people in. Turns out the item I had purchased was NOT a complete set of caster wheels as described. When I told the guy he said since there was no Rasmus person and they were already backed up at 10am they'd have to issue the refund later and I should just leave it with him. Well, no refund was ever received so I disputed the charge and my Rasmus account was suspended. Didn't realize it was in the terms until I contacted support (which is slow and only through text message). The terms say "indefinite" but what they actually means is "in perpetuity." They said they will not reinstate my account over $8 when I have been bidding for years and over 2K spent all because a staff person was either late or a no-show at the auction pick-up.

Thank you for taking the time to share this, and especially for being a longtime Rasmus Auctions bidder. We’d like to look into exactly what happened with your pickup and refund. Would you mind letting us know which auction this was, or providing the auction number or pickup date? That will allow our team to review the records and better understand what occurred.
