Great company- if you're cisgender
Great company- if you're cisgender. I had heard really great things about prjkt ruby from a friend who had used them before, and i needed birth control without a lot of drama. Unfortunately, in spite of socially aware friends thinking PR was very trans friendly, that was not my experience. To be clear: my experience was a one-star experience only because i finally got my prescription. I rated three because PR provides vital services, and i'm aware ignorance is par for the course. I was just hoping for something better. First- they ask for your gender. I understand that there's some misconception that bc increases estrogen so some trans women who don't think to google might want it (but they're female so what does this question even accomplish?? don't even get me started on nonbinary folks)-- but i was told that if "[male name] wanted to pay for the prescription, that was fine, but they needed the patient's information." When i told them that [male name] was me, i was the patient, i was informed that "We have a problem." Long story short, i ended up talking to some kind of supervisor who didn't know anything about trans issues. I heard some a very distinctive echo which has me convinced i was answering personal medical questions on speakerphone, and agreeing that i was "transitioning to a male" even though my transition is complete and i would still be male if it wasn't. The sudden and audible light bulbs going off when they realized i hadn't had any kind of bottom surgery and said, "And that's why you need birth control," would have been the nail in the coffin if i hadn't really needed this prescription. It's entirely possible that my experience was a one-off. Hey, maybe PR has even educated their people since. I certainly hope so, because my experience was humiliating, which is sadly what i'm used to with medical professionals. I had hoped PR would be a change from that.
