My husband and I recently moved from California to Illinois with a newborn and 2 dogs. To say I was scared and stressed is an understatement. Choosing this moving company was hands down the best decision I made during the entire process. From the very first interaction, their team was professional, responsive, and genuinely helpful. Kay and Cindi were soo kind and answered every question and concern I had! Their level of transparency immediately gave me confidence that I was in good hands. On moving day, the crew that Jonathan had showed up right on time and came fully prepared. They handled all of my belongings with extreme care, wrapping and securing everything to ensure nothing would be damaged during the long journey. I was especially impressed with how efficient and respectful they were, not only of my items, but also of my time and space. I just got my belongings and couldn’t be happier that I went with this company!!!

I am very impressed with the service I received from Plymouth Van lines. Their crew was very friendly and hard-working. They wrapped everything pristine, so my furniture didn't sustain any damage. Their price was fair. And I was delivered in a very timely manner.

Upcharge and destroyed items
I initially called a company called "coastal moving". Do not call this company either. That is a separate review. Two days before my move, I received a call from Plymouth Van Lines to tell me they would be handling my move. I had never heard of Plymouth Van Lines, I did not hire Plymouth Van Lines and I did not want Plymouth Van Lines. When I asked what happened to Coastal Moving, PVL said that they were a "broker". I was horrified. Again, at no point did Coastal represent themselves as a broker or mention this would happen. They never mentioned the PVL company in any way. It was two days before my move and I had no choice but to go with PVL.
When they arrived, they immediately up-charged me for thousands more than the original estimate. Even after removing a third of my items, this company wanted $7,200. Again, I had no choice but to pay whatever they said. Also, he said there was no way it would be 10 days. It would likely be 3 weeks, which ended up being accurate. I was again horrified. When I asked why they were so different from Coastal, they said "broker is going to broker". Did that just mean lie to me? I still do not know. I even had a conversation with the head mover where I begged him to assure that my electronics would make it safely. He shook my hand and assured me they would. It is important to mention again that I paid for professional packing. They packed everything for me. I chose to pay more to ensure the safety of my items.
Three weeks later my things arrived. The movers were different people and much more professional. Once they were finished, I started going through my things. First, I was missing three boxes full of items. When I plugged in my $1,500 TV, it would not turn on. The legs on my dresser were broken beyond repair. My reclining chair was permanently stuck in the reclining position. The panels on my TV stand were shattered into pieces. When the initial PVL rep called me to go over my inventory, she encouraged me to have my vacuum and its accessories packed separately. The accessories arrived, but the vacuum did not. It would almost be funny if it was not horrifying. Again, they packed everything themselves. There is no excuse for this.
I immediately called PVL to find out what happened with my broken and missing items. Sadly, I could write another review, twice as long, about the difficulty of this interaction. Long story short, you will be gaslighted and lied to in several different ways. You will find out very quickly that this is not their first rodeo. Frankly, they are much better at dealing with unsatisfied customers than they are with actually moving your items.
Once you have given up working with them, your only recourse is submitting a claim, which is heavily weighed on the side of the moving company. They are fully aware of this fact and will direct you to this end when you call them. It is an incredibly tedious process and the interface is very confusing to use. Also, it takes months upon months to process. So after a $10,000 move (when you include broken and missing items) and all the anguish these people will put you through, the claims department offered me $150.
Don’t make the same mistake I did. Sell your items before moving or hire literally anyone else.

Best moving company
Plymouth Van Lines is the best! Moving is so stressful but they showed up on time and made it look so easy. They wrapped all of my furniture and antiques up carefully and were very efficient and professional. At delivery they made sure all of our stuff was placed where we wanted them to go. I definitely recommend anyone moving to give them a call.

By far one of the worst experiences…
By far one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in any industry. Kay and the people at the office are incredible. After that yikes!
First off, if you are outside the area of them coming to give you a quote in person DO NOT USE THEM!! They will lowball so bad on the initial quote and then more than double it on the day of the move. Well of course you’ll pay it or it will cause an even bigger headache. We had an international trip that night so we had no choice. We went from at $4,800 quote to over $10,000 and we left behind a ton of stuff 😂 either tell them to do an in person quote or don’t use them at all.
Second, as soon as the supervisor gets there he starts whining. For a solid 20 minutes. The best part was, he whined so much about a 2-person sauna. You would’ve thought it was a B2 bomber. Finally I just said don’t worry my wife and I put it together so we’ll take it apart. It took less than 10 minutes 😂 dude was so unprofessional but at the end he was super nice when we paid more than double the original quote. Funny how that works.
Lastly, the guy that dropped everything off was amazing! Super professional and hard worker. The only problem was—- the 2 other guys that were supposed to show up never did! So I spent over an hour jumping up on the truck to help unload. Still haven’t gotten my paycheck yet 😂
We did get our stuff and only had a few broken items (piano bench, cracked mirror, broken dresser, etc) but I’d drive a U-Haul back and forth 5 times before I’d ever use this company again. Total nightmare.

Great moving company
Great moving company. I was so nervous about the process. Everyone helped me through every aspect of moving from Fallbrook, California to Tryon, North Carolina. The guys that picked up my stuff were very respectful, and my belongings were delivered on time and in perfect condition. Cindi kept me apprised of the delivery date and time and even followed up a few days later to see if everything was OK. 5 stars I definitely recommend them.

I had a great move with Plymouth Van…
I had a great move with Plymouth Van Lines--they moved me across the country from California to Maine. Everything went smooth from Eric and his team at the pick up to Koby and his crew at delivery. I would highly recommend this company if you are moving out of southern California.
