Pickup MusicReviews of pickupmusic.com

Pickup is the best online learning platform for motivated individuals who want to take their playing to the next level. I'm excited to see how they branch out into other instruments in the future for intermediate players. Their guitar courses have been so good for me, I never knew I was a neo-soul guitar fan until I tried the pathway.

I've made rapidly Beginner levels and now the Intermediate level, too. I'm now progressing with CAGED1 pathway and plan to start Rock. The speed of my "studies" is of course due to my earlier playing of guitar ( stopped 15 years ago and started keyboards). However I had never taken lessons on guitar. I like the structured pathways, nice lessons and teachers. I'm full of excitement every day and try to keep improving.

The genres covered are relevant and inspring to me. I find other learning platforms quite narrow. I like with Pickup Music I can take a deep dive into chord melody (daunting) and also, say, side step into country licks if I feel like it. Pickup Music's learning pathways are intuitively set out and easy to dip in and out of. I really like the instructors. Clearly all talented musicians but also great educators. I have been surpised to see artists I know with their own course on the platform. The style and tone of Pickup Music is classy and tasteful. Great video production values and I find the UI intuitive.

So I chose to try pick up music as a supplement to my private teaching, and/or as another option. I’m a very “hands on” person and I don’t like recommending things I haven’t tried. I was very pleased with the country course and look forward to trying the other courses. I am very happy to see that the music is given in tabs as well as written notation. Some of the videos/notation can be off sometimes, but the Pickup staff are very attentive when you leave a comment pointing out discrepancies. The “feedback” portion is also very helpful. I’ve been using the service off and on for about 2-3 months and have enjoyed it immensely.

with my crazy schedule it helps that I can practice whenever I want + there is so much to learn here from soul to rock

Classical Guitar taught me to read music and apply it to the fret board. Pickup music is teaching me to be comfortable moving up and down the neck of the guitar without music in front of me, and to understand at an intuitive level how it's all connected. I'm learning to improvise, and connect my ear to my fingers. I really love the community at Pickup music. It feels very supportive for players at many levels, and the self-paced lessons are great for people like me who don't have a lot of time. The weekly live lessons keep me on track, and keep the momentum going. It's been a great experience so far.

Every course I have viewed has been top notch. Very easy to understand and step by step instruction. No matter what level you are at there is something for all guitarists.

I am loving pickupmusic! Last summer I was looking for a jazz guitar online course and after some research I decided to try this site. Since then I've completed a couple of grades of jazz pathway and then decided to solidify my fretboard navigation with the CAGED pathway. And then also completed a few smaller courses on funk and Hendrix CAGED approach. The latter is just awesome! The differentiating feature of pickupmusic which is keeping me here is step-by-step lessons making it very easy to follow and make progress in small increments. A little theory, some exercises, jamalong track, integrating everything learned in performance pieces - all is very well thought thru and manageable even for a working dad:) I wish such resources were available when I first picked up the guitar many years ago!
