Regarding the “AI Magic Restore” feature, we want to clarify that it’s an optional tool. Your yearly subscription still includes all of Photomyne’s core scanning, enhancement, organizing, and storage features, just as before. If you’re being asked to pay extra, it’s related specifically to this newer AI feature. It uses advanced external technology, which is why it carries a small separate fee - and importantly, that fee is strictly to cover the machine processing cost, not for profit. That said, we truly hear your concern about image quality and how things feel different now. That’s not the experience we want for long-time users like you, and we’d really like the opportunity to look into this more closely with you. All of Photomyne’s core scanning, enhancement, and colorization features are still included in the membership as before. The AI Magic Restore feature you mentioned is a newer, optional beta tool that uses advanced Google technology to repair heavily damaged photos. Because it relies on external AI processing, it has a small separate cost, and we only charge the machine cost for using that technology. If the quality of your scans now seems lower than before, that definitely shouldn’t be your experience. Sometimes scanning conditions (lighting, distance, or number of photos scanned at once) can affect results, and we’d be happy to help you get the best possible quality again. We’re sorry this was your experience. No extra equipment is mandatory. The app is designed to work using just your phone. When scanning negatives and slides, a light source is needed, and many users simply use another screen at home. We also offer a backlight on our website (https://photomyne.com/backlight). A phone mount is also completely optional - it can help stabilize your device and make the process easier, but it’s not required. These tools are meant to improve convenience and consistency, not to be mandatory for using the app. Regarding the $1.99 charge and your message not being answered, that’s not the experience we want for you.
