Hi Lisa, thank you for sharing your experience. We do reach out to pet owners in our system to make sure they know their registration options - we'd never want a pet to go without the best chance of coming home if they're ever lost. We're sorry the call felt unwelcome, and we completely respect your choice. We would gently note that free registration and a fully supported service aren't quite the same thing. Petkey members get a 24/7 US-based lost pet hotline, dedicated recovery support, and a team actively working to reunite lost pets with their families - services free registries simply can't provide. We wish you and your pet all the best. The Petkey Team

Hi Christine, We’re sorry to hear about your experience, but we do want to clarify a few important points. Petkey is a legitimate, independent pet recovery service that has been operating for over 20 years and is used by pet owners and veterinary professionals across North America. We are not affiliated with Petlink, and our website and registration process clearly identify Petkey as the service being purchased. We understand that you intended to register with a different provider, and while we cannot control which ads users choose to click on, we do encourage all customers to review the details of a service before completing a purchase—particularly when multiple companies in the same space have similar names. That said, as a gesture of goodwill, we have issued you a full refund. We take feedback seriously and are always working to improve clarity for our customers, but we respectfully disagree with the characterization of our company as a “scam.” We wish you and your pet all the best. Kid Regards, Petkey

Hi Melissa, We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Petkey, like other microchip registries, advertises through Google. In this case, a registration was completed on our website after selecting one of those ads. While we understand this may not have been your intention, we’re unable to redirect or transfer registrations from other companies, as each registry operates independently. As the service is digital and processed instantly once submitted, it is considered fulfilled at the point of completion, which means it is non-refundable under our terms. That said, we’re always happy to review individual cases, so please feel free to contact our support team if you’d like us to take another look. Your pet’s microchip is now securely registered in our nationwide database, making their details accessible to vets, shelters, and pet professionals, and helping ensure they can be identified and returned to you. Kind regards, Petkey

Hi Kristen, We appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. We understand that when you see “free” registry options online, paying for registration can raise questions. The key difference is that Petkey is not simply a database that stores contact information. When you register with us, your microchip is activated in the national lookup system and connected to our active recovery services. That includes 24/7 live U.S.-based phone support (which you were able to reach), proactive lost pet alerts sent to shelters and veterinary offices, recovery outreach assistance, and ongoing system maintenance and security. Providing live support and active recovery services requires real staffing and infrastructure, which is why Petkey operates as a paid service rather than a basic data registry. Some registries provide free data storage only. Pet owners should absolutely choose the option that best fits their expectations. Our focus is providing hands-on support designed to help reunite pets and families as quickly as possible. Kind Regards, Petkey

Hi Wintersune rains, We are truly sorry about your sister’s passing. We can only imagine how difficult this time must be, and we’re sorry to hear that your experience with us left you feeling disappointed. That is never what we want for any pet keeper. Your pet is successfully registered in our secure recovery database. This means the microchip number is now securely linked to your contact information, so if your pet is ever lost and scanned, your details will appear and you can be contacted for reunification. Our service also provides 24/7 access to a U.S.-based call center, including Spanish-speaking support. We take feedback about service seriously and have shared your comments internally so we can review the interaction and continue improving how we support pet keepers. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Kind regards, Petkey

Hello Magic Rainbow, Thank you for sharing your concerns. We completely understand how frustrating it must feel to receive an unexpected email when you’ve always kept your pet’s records up to date, and you’ve clearly been very diligent about making sure your pet is protected. The only way your daughter would have received an email from us is if her address was entered into our system at some point, this can sometimes happen if a registration was started online but never completed. In those cases, our system may send a reminder about finishing the process. To clarify, we do not search external databases or use microchip numbers to find or contact pet owners. Any messages we send come only from information already provided directly to us. If you’re able to share the email address where the message was received, we’d be happy to investigate further and confirm exactly why it was sent. Please rest assured that your pet’s existing registration remains valid and secure. Kind Regards, Petkey

Hello Sam, After a careful review, it appears that you have never registered a pet with us. Are you sure you're not referring to a different microchip database? We take the security of your pet's information very seriously and want to reassure you that unauthorized access is not possible with just a microchip ID. To access or make any changes to an account, you must have the correct login credentials. A microchip ID alone is not enough to gain entry. The Petkey system is designed with multiple security layers to protect your data and ensure that only you, as the rightful keeper, can manage your pet’s information. Any transfer of keepership requires additional verification and is always reviewed by our U.S.-based support team, who are available 7 days a week to confirm all requests. If you have any reason to believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at 734-600-3463. We will promptly investigate, secure your account, and ensure your pet’s registration remains accurate. Kind Regards, Petkey
