No mention of mandatory $20 or $45 payment required BEFORE filling out all your personal information. No way to simply register your pet without paying for their service.

There is only a fee to register if your vet's office did not include that when they charged you for the microchip implantation. We apologize if your vet's office did not inform you of this.

The website is designed to make you think you are registering your pet's microchip but then diverts you into buying unrelated products. I thought I was paying to register the chip (which you shouldn't have to do if you have already purchased it) and receiving a tag in addition to the registration. In fact, I was only purchasing the tag. I emailed to cancel the purchase within 5 minutes, but my card was charged immediately and when I called the next day they told me it had already been processed. When I told them I would file a complaint with the FTC they refunded the money. I have received texts and emails asking me to come back to the website and register the chip. Edit with reply: I think you know exactly what you are doing: misleading people to purchase things. I am sorry that this business model works. I appreciate the refund and wish your employees well.

It is definitely not our intent to confuse or defraud anyone. We only offer ID related products that further enhance the chances a pet is reunited with their family as quickly as possible. We also always offer a 100% satisfaction refund policy if you change your mind. It is unfortunately a very common misunderstanding that microchips are always registered just because they were implanted and often the fee paid only covers the cost of the vet implanting the microchip. If you did pay your vet for a registration as well then you would not be charged any additional fees to register. We do try to help clarify this confusion in the industry as best we can.

1) They do not tell you their service costs money until you have an account (registering a microchip is free in many places) 2) They have no way to deactivate or delete your account once you've signed up 3) Their "chat help" option just sends your question to an email, is not connected to actual help 4) I tried deleting my info from my account (put non-personal info instead) and it wouldn't let me / save it 5) I've already gotten 3 sales emails from them in the first 30 minutes of having an account 6) They are most definitely not a .org / organization, they are a for-profit business 7) When I finally ended up calling in, she did deactivate my account - but unfortunate unprofessional form to have a web service and no way to end it without having to call during their business hours. SO UNPROFESSIONAL ON EVERY LEVEL. [UPDATE: Response to PetKey reply: I spent 20 minutes trying to find a delete account or any other way to remove my profile with no luck. There is no info about charges for your services shown until you have signed up for an account. I appreciate that you have been helping pet owners, but do not change my stated issues with your site.]

We are sorry to hear you had a frustrating experience. We pride ourselves on our customer support. We do provide a way to delete your account online without having to call in as we understand that people do create accounts in error or change their mind. We do have a fully staffed office to help people in the event their pet does go missing. Other "free" services are not able to provide this support and only offer automated methods of responding to someone who has found your pet. We have been helping pet owners recover pets for over twenty years and it has been our experience that a combination of the best technology and and live support is the fastest way to reunite pets when they go missing.

I was also redirected to this site but it seemed legitimate. I paid for a lifetime chip registry and also ordered other items like a pet ID card a window cling for the fire department etc etc. After a month of not receiving the items I emailed them and received an email back literally being ordered not to contact them again until July 17th. I'm not kidding it was the rudest email I ever got. Waited another few weeks and emailed them July 14th said I still don't have my items I have an email saying the woman was going to go check in the warehouse and see where my order was. It is now July 18th I still have not heard back and am forced to go to the Better Business Bureau this morning. My advice run run and find yourself another service

Thank you for providing this feedback. We take customer service very seriously. I was able to track down the email correspondence you received and we apologize as it appears the representative failed to proof read the email and there was a typo where she meant to type please do let us know it instead said please do not let us know. We apologize for that mistake and we will be in touch with you to rectify the situation.

I recently got my dog chipped and was told from my vet be sure to use correct web address to register him so I was very careful going to that correct site, selected register and filled out everything and was surprised I had to pay $45 for a lifetime of protection in case my pet is lost. when I decided to check my chip # to see if I had registered him correctly and add his picture I noticed it was Petkey not Petlink (who is free to register but I didn't know at the time) had linked into the site when I went to register and pulled up their registration form. I was so mad! Thankfully I used a credit card and I went to stop payment when it suggested I call them first so I did. Of course they said they never did any kind of scam but I know better and told them they better reverse the charges or I WILL!!! It is reversed!!! WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS FROM PETKEY!!!!!

Please understand that you went to our website in error. There are multiple microchip registries to choose from. It sounds like your vet already paid for a registration for you with Petlink so it was not free you just pre paid for it through your vet. That is completely fine but we have no way of knowing when you visit our website that you did not intend on going to our website. We did not link into Petlink's website or redirect you. You just mistakenly clicked on the wrong link. We understand mistakes happen and we refunded your registration fee with us the moment you notified us. The fact that a live person answered your phone call immediately and rectified your mistake should be proof enough that we are in fact not a scam and here to help families reunite with their missing pets.

The name tag was in fact very cheaply made for ($15) and I too feel fleeced because when I typed in the company the humane society gave me Pet Key popped up. I like others didn't realize it was not associated with the original company and they got my money. I have never heard of yearly renewal fees in all my years of microchipping pets. Seems like a scam to me. Hoping my pet is truly protected.
Response from PetkeyApr 26, 2023
We would be happy to replace your tag. We would like to clarify that the yearly renewal only applies to the additional lost pet recovery services and is optional. Your pet's microchip is fully registered for a lifetime and searchable in the universal lookup tool. If you ever have any questions please let us know. Your contact information is not provided in this review so please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can send you a new ID tag.

Don’t waste your money on their harnesses. They are cheaply made and don’t fit right. They do not stand behind their products. So their reply mentioned a refund site. Searched for it and can’t find it. Was told on their chat that they don’t give refunds. First you said “refunds@petkey” with an s which came back as undeliverable. Now you say “refund@petkey” without the s. Waiting to see if that goes through. Why don’t you just contact me? Order # PK-439083

Thank you for providing that number so we could look up your order. We have issued a full refund.

I don't even want to give them one star. The tag registered to my dog was cheap cheaply made and the number has recently rubbed off I ordered a new tack they did not put her microchip number on the tag like I requested $20 when I called customer service when I finally got it in the mail did they help me no they made excuses do not go with this company.
