I wish I could give them negative stars. I will try to keep this short. They sent money to the IRS for taxes on the wrong quarter. 8 months later and I am still out >$30,000 of my personal money. Paycor is giving me the run around and has tried to charge me fees for their mistakes. The IRS lost the refund form. Paycor is impossible to get ahold of and customer service continues to lie to me.

I was referred to Paycor by Fifth Third…
I was referred to Paycor by Fifth Third Bank and initially felt confident moving forward. During my first conversation with the representative, I was told that with only seven employees, my monthly cost would be $149, and my first month would be free. That felt fair and straightforward.
Unfortunately, the experience that followed was anything but.
My first month was billed at $225, despite being told it would be free. When I contacted the rep, she explained that because I started mid month, they wouldn’t honor the free month — something never mentioned upfront. The next month came in at $189, and then the third month jumped to $775. At that point, I had to stop everything at my restaurant to figure out what was happening.
I was told the large charge was because I didn’t have all the required IDs in the system for filing. As a business owner paying for a payroll service, I expect them to communicate what they need — not silently charge me hundreds of dollars in penalties without any outreach. Yet every time I asked for clarification, I was simply sent a link to an FAQ page.
The following month was $445, meaning their fees were now continuing to be above my actual $149.
To make matters worse, Paycor’s payroll processing is extremely slow. It takes four business days for employees to be paid — five days if there’s a holiday. Their service is slow, but their billing is fast.
Now I’m in collections simply because their billing cycle is unclear and inconsistent.
As a business owner, I need predictable costs to operate. Paycor has been anything but predictable. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Paycor to any business of any size.

This is the worst payroll company to…
This is the worst payroll company to work with. I would stay away from this company. In three months our small company of about five employees we have been charged fees in the neighborhood of $1,500. One of our employees was having issues inputing their information and Paycor said they would enter on behalf of employee. I told them no but they insisted and entered employee direct deposit information. This resulted in multiple returned deposit fees. I called and for three weeks said they were working on issue. But Paycor would refuse to take ownership of situation. To make matters even worse I submitted an account closure form and then called to follow-up was told account will not be closed until thorough investigation of situation by someone in billing. Today I am trying to run payroll only to find out that account is closed and dont even have employees hours
This is the worst payroll company. IF YOUR MONEY IS IMPORTANT TO YOU DO NOT TRY THIS COMPANY
This is an update to my first review. This company posts that they are actively trying to see what went wrong but truly have no intention of actually fixing the problem..
They say they will contact you to try to fix issue but will do nothing. Worst experience ever. Just found out that they had been collecting our Workers Compensation and not depositing to WC. Called WC was told we haven’t paid WC since June1st. So two months without submitting WC but taking the money. Do yourself a favor find a different company

Terrible service that doesn't work
Paycor promised me significant time savings through their automated onboarding process and that transfer of timeclock data would be automatic, or close too it.
They put almost no time into getting my company set up, their customer service reps had no idea how their system worked and at every turn, things changed. If a prospective employee could not complete the onboarding paperwork, I couldn't just fix it, but rather had to reenter the entire employee file.
Each time a part of their service failed, I had to spend 2-8 hours figuring out how to fix it. Never on the first contact and they don't return calls or emails. I ended up entering all of my payrolls by hand and then entering all the accounting entries by hand, despite being promised automation for both.
They couldn't deal with Vermont taxes, so every quarter, I had to go into their system, create reports that gave me the data needed, and then fill out the tax form so they could pay it.
They promised I could add custom forms to the onboarding process; we never got there. I spent all of my payroll time fixing their errors and never actually discovered any way to add forms.
They promised me that they would check every new employee for workforce credits. They never checked one and even after I worked hard with them to try to set it up, it did not work.
Then when I found myself forced to go to another provider mid-year, they charged me more than the full price for the remainder of the year-long contract and cut my access to read-only for 60 days.
And I had to print out and re-enter every paycheck by hand to go to my new supplier.
What an awful experience.

Do NOT use Paycor as your payroll…
Do NOT use Paycor as your payroll processor.
They claim security and ease of use are priorities, but based on my experience, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Their customer service was equally disappointing.
Our most recent payroll package, addressed to our company, arrived with our employee checks and the payroll checks for an entirely different company inside. Concerned about the obvious privacy and security issue, I contacted the other company listed on the checks. They informed me that they had also received checks belonging to a completely different company. (So 3 companies involved now) This was clearly more than an isolated packaging mistake.
I called Paycor to report what appeared to be a serious breach of confidential payroll information. The first representative repeatedly told me they couldn’t speak with me because I wasn’t listed on the account and that they couldn’t disclose company information due to privacy policies.(Mind you I am authorized person on our account which they verified)
The problem was that I wasn’t asking for any confidential information. I was trying to report that Paycor had placed another company’s payroll checks inside our package. I explained this several times, but the representative continued repeating the same thing without understanding the issue. Then being condescending and telling me “how would you feel if we disclosed your information to another company?” (I AM NOT ASKING FOR INFORMATION FROM THE COMPANY)
When I asked to speak with a supervisor, I was told no. The representative insisted a supervisor would tell me the same thing and refused to transfer me multiple times. At that point, I ended the call because it was going nowhere with this representative.
I called back and reached someone else. Initially, they tried to blame UPS, so I had to clarify multiple times that we received the correct package but that it contained another company’s payroll checks inside it. Once they finally understood the situation, they transferred me to someone higher up agreeing that this needed escalated.
The escalation team recognized the seriousness of the issue, opened an investigation, and agreed that the first representative should have escalated my call to a supervisor from the beginning and it was not their place to state whether a supervisor would agree or not. They acknowledged that this was a significant privacy concern, especially considering another company had also received payroll checks that didn’t belong to them. They also stated they would report the first call to a manager as this was unacceptable.
Mistakes can happen. What concerns me most is how difficult it was to report what appears to be a payroll security issue. Also, having representatives that refuse to recognize and escalate a privacy breach, is a serious problem.

Paycor owns nothing
Paycor owns nothing. None of their offerings are proprietary, so when you run into an issue their customer service has zero ability to troubleshoot. For example, the schedule module, benefit administration, LMS, etc. do not directly come from Paycor. Documents stored in the LMS do not flow to EE profiles. When updating schedules it opens a separate tab because the scheduling platform is actually owned by xible with a Paycor logo slapped onto it. This causes a ton of issues with synching schedules, etc. This all would be annoying on its own, but when accompanied by (with no exaggeration) the worst accumulation of customer service representatives you could imagine, it makes for an absolute disaster of an experience. My review is so bad, and yet it wont even move the needle on their score because as you already are aware if you have made it to my review I am just one of the many customers with the exact same story to tell. Advocating for your company to move to Paycor would be career suicide. Stay far away.
We requested someone to come in on-site to meet with us to help get clarification around some of our concerns and had no luck. The entire company is extremely siloed and only know their little area of "expertise" so once you cross slightly into someone elses area they try and transfer the call...I am literally referring to someone in time and attendance not being able to speak to scheduling whatsoever, and as we all know those pretty much go hand in hand. Everyone works from home and that is painfully obvious on every teams call, etc. as there is absolutely no collaboration within the company. Even if you pay extra for their premium support and you have a dedicated rep, you are instructed to still create and submit a case every time you want to contact them. They will not provide you with a direct email address.

Paycor has been very inconsistent
Paycor has been very inconsistent, with poor to worst customer service. They will drain your account by billing you even after you escape their low integrity.

Strong Sales Pitch, Weak Customer Experience
As the sole HR leader for my organization, I've worked in multiple HRIS and payroll systems throughout my career. Unfortunately, Paycor has been, by far, the most frustrating experience I've had.
This isn't based on one isolated incident. It's the result of months of ongoing issues across payroll, tax services, customer support, billing, and implementation.
Some of the challenges we've experienced include:
Payroll tax configuration that requires settings in multiple unrelated areas of the system, with little or no training explaining these dependencies.
Massachusetts state payroll taxes not being remitted on time, forcing us to spend valuable time following up on issues that should have been handled by Paycor's tax service.
Support cases routinely being touched by five or six different representatives, with little communication, no clear ownership, and cases being closed before the issue is actually resolved.
Billing questions that go unanswered despite repeated requests for clarification and callbacks.
A support representative accidentally deleting my user profile during a support session.
An implementation process that consisted largely of directing me to a knowledge base instead of providing meaningful, hands-on training.
The biggest disappointment is the gap between the sales process and the customer experience. During implementation, the system was presented as intuitive and well supported. The reality has been that I've had to teach myself many critical functions through trial and error while discovering configuration requirements only after problems occurred.
The individual support representatives I've spoken with have generally been polite and professional. The problem is the overall customer experience. There appears to be very little continuity between support teams, limited product knowledge among many representatives, and almost no accountability for seeing an issue through from beginning to end.
As an HR professional, payroll accuracy and tax compliance are not optional—they're fundamental business requirements. I spend far more time troubleshooting Paycor than I ever should.
I cannot recommend Paycor based on my experience. If you're evaluating HRIS and payroll providers, ask detailed questions about implementation, tax services, case ownership, and post-sale support before signing a contract. Those answers matter far more than the sales presentation.
