Know what you are getting into!
I've used OCHO for insurance for a while, but when it came time to renew insurance this time I decided to look elsewhere due to the fact that I was 1. Paying a pretty penny for liability only insurance, 2. When I needed to drop a vehicle and add a vehicle you had to send over information on a Google Doc form that seemed to never get looked at which had me calling these folks weeks later to get it changed, 3. They don't give you your documents until after the policy renews, causing issues with being unable to work on certain platforms because the documents were not available in a timely manner, but the kicker to me is they renew policies using credit that I didn't authorize and when you try to cancel the policy a few hours in after you find out its renewed they want a fee. They also wanted me to pay a fee when I moved to change my address and that was before they checked the rates for the move. Yes, this insurance can be flexible but they will definitely charge you for it.

Hi Jennifer, thank you for the detailed feedback, and for being a customer for as long as you were. I'm Jaime, co-founder of OCHO. Our mission is to make insurance more affordable and fit real life, and several of your points show where we can do better. Vehicle changes: You're right about the Google Doc form. It is a relic, we are moving off it, and we are working to speed up how fast we process changes. Documents: Carriers don't send us renewal documents until the renewal is effective, so we can't pass them on sooner. I'm sorry that caused problems when you needed them for work. Renewal: At renewal, we pay the required down payment to the carrier for you, so you keep the same payment schedule without paying anything up front. We take that risk so you don't have to, and the arrangement has 0% interest, $0 finance charges and $0 late fees. We also send notices by text and email ahead of renewal so customers can make changes or opt out. Because we have already paid the carrier, cancelling right after renewal can leave an amount owed (including the renewal broker fee for shopping your policy). The $25 for your address change: Changes often raise the premium, and the carrier asks for a payment against the increase right away, which comes out of our bank account. The $25 is not a fee. We keep none of it; it is applied to premium you already owe and lowers your balance. Price: we don't set rates, the carriers do. We show you options and use tools like PriceCheck to look for the lowest price, and I'm sorry liability-only still felt expensive. One thing I hope stays with you: because we are a lender (in addition to your broker), we reported all of your payments to the major credit bureaus, which can help build or improve your credit score. If anything is still open on your account, please email [email protected] or call (800) 220-1416 and we'll take a closer look. — Jaime, Co-Founder, OCHO
