As for mold or mildew, this is something that can occur for any number of reasons and generally just periodically using a bleach solution will kill any mold or mildew and help prevent it returning, please see our care instruction page on the website which explains how to care for the furniture. Hi Richard So sorry to hear about your issues and it certainly isn't the standard we would expect in our furniture. I passed on your comments to the factory in Java to prevent this happening. Even so the bench will last for many,many years to come. Regards Paul
