DO NOT GO TO NU
I don’t even know where to start….I enrolled to NU in August of 2020 seeking a BA in ECE with the attached ITL for credentials (2 previous years were spend at a CC clearing my prerequisites) My experience has been awful. The amount of money we pay to not be told ANYTHING ever is insane. They’ll tell you “guidance is in the emails” do you mean the dozens of spam emails we get daily? That’s not guidance, that’s not doing your job after collecting thousands of dollars. I ask all the questions and get wishy washy answers. I am 45 years old, I am not 22, I don’t have the rest of my life to mess around getting my degree. I have taken 36 classes, I am 2 months away from entering the ITL portion of my program. I asked about dropping the ITL portion to just obtain my BA so I can start working and make more than minimum wage as a paraprofessional. I was just told if I drop the ITL portion of the program and simply just obtain my BA I suddenly have TWELVE more courses that I need. I asked my advisor last week if I only had one more course left before the credential portion of my program and she confirmed…..It’s like suddenly I want out of the credential program and they don’t like that. I have been in college for 6 years total with no BA and I have only taken courses I have been advised are needed for my degree….it doesn’t make sense. We are students, we are the “customer”, we do not come to a University knowing 100% of the process, that’s the job of the university/Advisor. My current employer has other paraprofessionals going through this program and all are extremely unhappy and over this. So if I finish my current program which apparently has 2+ years left and student teach while making ZERO money that puts me at 8 years of schooling to be a teacher….no wonder there’s a shortage of teachers. There are NO check-ins, NO guidance, NO support, NO checklist or idea of where you’re at in the program (they’ll tell you to look at your academic advisement report but then tell you it’s not accurate and to contact them) it’s a nightmare. I feel shackled to this institution and I am really upset.
