I was nervous at first about attending National University because I felt it might be a watered down educational experience; I was wrong and really enjoyed the program. The curriculum and cadence was spot on and have no regrets for attending. The courses were rigorous and kept me both engaged and on my toes. The journey of getting to the end, was better than receiving the degree itself. This was personal for me and has to be for anyone who decides to move forward. There was one major disappointment with National and that is they don't (or didn't) hire the very students who paid, learned and pushed through the programs they claim to believe in. Mentoring and hiring alumni would not only increase enrollment but also gives hope and motivates those who are struggling to keep pushing through. I suggest you change this rule and start to mentor and hire graduates from your establishment.

National University transition
National University took over John F. Kennedy while I was attending JFKU. My experience during the transition was 4 out of 5 stars. It is easy to get in contact with different departments and have questions answered easily. I overall enjoyed my experience.

I was very pleased with the quality of…
I was very pleased with the quality of instruction in the MFA Professional Screenwriting Program at National University, as well as the high caliber of the instructors. In addition to honing my writing skills, I was also able to learn and appreciate the different platforms through which I could showcase my writing. These include films, transmedia projects, or television shows. Moreover, I have been able to adapt to various writing styles and genres, some of which I was not interested in prior to enrolling in the program. As a writer, I develop the ability to write compelling stories with dynamic characters and to recognize which pieces of writing are likely to meet industry standards. The program is no longer available for the purposes for which it was originally designed, so I have not given it a five-star rating.

NU and Asynchronous School
The experience overall was great, what prevented the program that I was enrolled in from receiving an excellent 5 star rating was the lack of fidelity between classes. This issue of consistency, while present during monthly classes was not to bad as each class was unique and didn't necessarily build on the next, or rely on the previous class to a great extent. However, when it came time to write the end of the program paper, the issue fidelity between classes made it difficult to write the paper. Furthermore, the process of writing a paper with little to no guidance in the asynchronous format extended my schooling end date by 4 months. I feel the lack of consistency in asynchronous classes is magnified because of the self teaching format. Fortunately, through the process of completing my classes I came across many great teachers who gave their own time to provide help beyond the asynchronous format that helped me finish my program and earn my M.S. degree.

My Journey at NU
My Journey at NU
I was a student at NU from 2016-2019 to complete a teaching credential and Master in Education. I was also working full time, a spouse, and mother of 3 children aged then between 5 and 16 years old when I started. At first, I was nervous and didn't know if I would make it, considering the busy life I already had; and being a very competitive person who thirsts for excellence, I wanted to make sure anything I did was great and well-done. I knew I needed to make sacrifices to reach my goals. Weekends were no more for family fun, but most of the time to get assignments completed, and weeknights were very long. I needed to help my family understand that things would be tight but just temporary and that I needed their support.
My motivations were:
1. The monthly educational plan that NU adopts and you know upfront what is expected of you and make plans
2. The willingness of the professors to help you, their flexibility, knowledge of their subjects, and the seriousness they put in the program
3. The learning I was gaining and knowing you are not alone in this journey but sharing common goals with other students
4. The salary increase that will happen after I complete my degree
5. The ability to have a student loan and not worry about how to pay my tuition.
The first few months were a bit challenging as I was learning to adapt to being a student again after not studying for 11 years and also learning to understand the American education system.
I quickly learn to overcome challenges by working ahead of time and not turning in assignments late, asking for help from my classmates or professors if I was confused about something, and being honest. Soon I started realizing I was doing the right thing and started enjoying it. My greatest joy was the day I graduated, but not only that, my kids were watching me and they were proud to see Mom graduate.
Today, my salary doubled and I was able to pay off my student loan in less than 3 years.
I feel very fortunate to have made the decision to go back to school and have a Master's in Education, although I possessed a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from my country of origin before moving to the USA.
My advice to anyone who wants to go to NU is:
1. Reflect on your current situation
2. Make a decision and have a goal
3. Have a strong work ethic to achieve your goal
4. Understand there will be bumps on the way but stay strong to overcome them. In the end, you will be satisfied.
Best wishes to all NU students who are starting this journey!

Great education and support.
I took me a while to reach my goal but I enjoyed all of it and its been an invaluable learning experience for me. Excellent education, staff, and support - I am proud to be degreed by National University. I began my journey st NU when I was in the US Navy and it was very feasible solution to the question of how could accomplish my educational goals given the circumstances. Turns out it was an excellent decision on my part.

Honestly, I have a degree.
In reflecting on my time at National I have to say it was overall positive. I am a fully employed professional doing the exact same job, with the same title, as my counterparts who went to Columbia and private schools like University of Washington.
What I’m hoping to point out is that while I was sad about the level of interaction I had, with my teachers in my fully online National classroom, I have a fraction of the debt.
My dissatisfaction mostly comes from the frustration that we (Americans) cannot access great education at an affordable price.
However, again, I has advanced my opportunity’s and improved my income through a shorter and cheaper option that National was able to provide. I had no problem meeting all the deadlines and completing the work at my own pace.

An Excellent School For Military Students
I started going back to school in 2018, I was really worried that going to school while I was active duty I would have a lot of schedule conflicts and I did. One of the biggest benefits of the four week model, was that if I was going to have a busy month next month I could take a class this month and skip that month and come back, I never did that instead of occasions I would try and take two classes on light months at work and and grind for a month. Most of the professors were very reasonable to work with I was sent to Spain in the middle of microbiology and they allowed me to come back and complete all my work after the course was over. A lot of them were also a professors at other universities like SDSU or UCSD and those professors gave us the same homework that they gave their other students so you weren't really getting a lesser education. Not to say that everything was perfect, I would say on campus at times felt like community college. They try to accommodate for a lot of people and some of them probably peaked their academia in high school. And so I would get frustrated having to recover a topic that certain students would find difficult and we wouldn't miss out on portions that would be useful in preparation the next course. One of the biggest advantages during covid was since the school had such a strong online presence a lot of the courses were easily transitioned online. Happy to say I have two degrees my associates and bachelor's from National University. I don't think it would have been possible at any other school.
