National Geographic takes our hand and leads us through evolution, fossils, science, archaeology, paleogeology, human migration out of Africa, and more. Its “Human Origins” page has 22 useful articles, maps, videos, and encyclopedic entries about where we’re from and how we came to discover our ancestors. Their YouTube channel also has fascinating clips about the fairly recent discoveries of Homo naledi and Homo neanderthalensis.

A short while ago, I dug out a box of NG magazines that my late father had from the 1980-90s and began reading through them, finding the quality of writing, articles and pictures quite amazing. Skip forward to three months ago and the idea sprung on me to subscribe to NG - with such a menial price of £25 (much cheaper than expected) that i jumped at the chance. Thus far I’ve received two magazines and have only had a chance to flick through them as I’m still catching up through 30 year old magazines. From the little I read in one magazine regarding the Solar System, I’d say the decision to subscribe has been sound, and it certainly seems worth the rolling sub. It is unfortunate reading some people having had bad experiences here on TrustPilot but I for one can say without a shadow of a doubt that it’s worth the money, not to mention the fact that it also includes digital access to past magazines which is a huge bonus (and perhaps a reason why I’ll not be seen for months on end as I peruse old articles with my pipe in hand).

I was dubious to subscribe after finding so many negative reviews, but I’m now enjoying my third issue which arrived in the post only the other day. Marvellous magazine with an interesting variety of content, not just vague content either. Amazing photography and intriguing pull-out pages, which remind me of encyclopaedia and more traditionally fashioned educational material. The yellow frame is a nice touch too, makes the magazines stand out and instantly recognisable as National Geographic.

Their website is easy to use and very accessible. Their magazines ship on time and their articles are unbiased.

Trying to ensure that the next subscription followed on from first one in error I renewed too early consequently losing 1 if not 2 months on the renewal date. Cannot get a response from their customer service to adjust this error . Although their answer phone says they will ring you -it doesn’t happen and when I did get a reply from yet another email attempt from me it was totally unhelpful and as if they just didn’t care or understand this simple issue and had made no reference to their records . We cannot blame the COVID effect on this particularly looking at the other reviews about poor indifferent customer service .I have 5 grandsons and 2 subscriptions. They enjoy the junior Nat geographic magazine but honestly I can not recommend that anyone deals with this organisation. It’s about time their managing director Peter Johnson looked at how his organisation is really working .
