If I could give 0 stars I would. We purchased a travel trailer through a dealer that works with directly with M and T. Had I known the kind of service we would get, I would have just financed it with our own local bank. When we tried to set up automatic payments, we were told we cannot do that online, we had to find the form online, fill it out, and mail it in. We wanted to make higher payments than what was required so we could pay it off faster. M and T does NOT allow you to set up automatic payments at a higher amount, so one would have to manually make an extra payment each month, with no promise that they would put it toward just the principle. We called multiple times and several of the staff were just plain rude. 4 months into this loan, we just paid it off so we could be rid of them. I feel bad for folks that are stuck with them for the term of their loans. I do not recommend working with M and T Bank.

Customer service it non exsitent. For over 1 month I have tried to resolove an overpayment issue. Made several calls, was sent a check that was made out to "themselves" for the overpayment. Talked to several Supervisors andmade several "back office" tickets but NADA. WILL NEVER USE M&T BANK AGAIN

This is the worst bank ever. For starters, walking into a branch is like walking into a morgue. No personality at all. Blank walls, not a picture in sight, so depressing that I hate having to go inside. Not sure who thought that was a good idea but it’s truly horrible. It’s painfully obvious that every single one of the workers at my local branch hate their jobs, and who can blame them. If it wasn’t such a pain to switch banks, I would have done it a long time ago. I was a longtime customer of their predecessor, People’s United. The bank basically went downhill on Day One when they took over. And for heavens sake, put $10 in your ATM’s! You can get $5, $20, but no $10. Makes absolutely no sense. And the drive thru is so awkward that you have to get out of your car, or contort your body in unnatural ways, just to use it. I have seen so many older people struggle with it. All that’s needed is to move it out a few inches…not rocket science. I will be leaving as soon as I can get a week off to sort out all my auto payments. The bank in the next plaza that I use for one of my clients is amazing. It’s so cheery inside the branch, beautiful pictures on the walls, and the employees look so happy! It has a real hometown feel. This bank seriously needs to do much better. Take your clues from other banks!

Worst Mortgage company ever. Took advantage of a 94 year old man, my father, stating we had no insurance, whe had insurance, then called our insurance and had them refund what was already paid in full just so they could overcharge us with lender placed insurance. Complete scam

I went there on September 3, 2026, they had block my card and put fraud on it. I was told the only way to get it off I had to go in person.I went in person and this nice young man Name Mathew Olivencia help us he was so polite and helpful and explained everything to us. He also made sure our card was working before we left out. Good job! When we first came in the door,We was greeted by someone and she was very nice and polite. It was really a good experience. Thank you M&T BANK. Good job!! Everyone there was really nice n polite!

M&T Bank took us to collections for the $0.39 left on our mortgage which we had talked to them multiple times and had sent in a check that must have gotten lost in the mail. We had called and said that we would send in another check for the value since the first check must got lost and they tried charing us a $58.00 late fee and then sent us to collections and it went on our credit report. They would not work with us and we were just trying to get our loan closed out.

Horrible customer service. They just want you to use the automated system that does not work. The bankers and managers are incompetant. I am sure it is not their direct fault but upper management should allow payments to be made over the phone rather than an automated system that does not work.

Tried to open a free checking account at M&T in order to have a nearby bank. After getting into the online app process 2 poor details came to light: 1 - M&T is not part of any larger ATM network, so unless one drives to a branch ATM fees apply & are NOT refunded. 2 - No free checks are provided. Instead they charge an absurdly high price for a small number of checks. This effort was abandoned. Only glad to have found their shortcomings BEFORE placing any funds there.
