The company will not give an estimate over the phone.Technicians came out wanted to charge 750 for a simple drain clean out.we have our complete septic pumped for 500.When I called the technician on the price he immediately dropped the price to 300 again more than premium weekend rates. Then the technicians (two) were talking crap while leaving my property.Do not use they up charge based on the looks of your property.

Excellent Plumbing Service
Excellent Plumbing Service — Highly Recommended
I had a great experience with the plumbing services provided. Josh was professional, punctual, and clearly knowledgeable from start to finish. He quickly diagnosed the issue, explained the work that needed to be done, and completed everything efficiently and with great attention to detail. The quality of the workmanship was excellent, and they left the area clean once the job was finished. I truly appreciate the reliable service and would confidently recommend Mr. Rooter to anyone in need of skilled, honest, and dependable plumbing work.

Horrible experience of an incompetent…
Horrible experience of an incompetent plumbing firm, would give them 0 stars if I could.
Situation: Have a pipe backing up with sewage, described the situation in detail, none of that reached the technician. Mr. Rooter requested $150 trip charge (non-refundable, not counted against the job either).
Plumber (named Alex Perez) arrived at the scene, quoted $2,500 for a replacement of an external iron cast line and a camera inspection of the pipe. Upon requesting to break down how this estimate is created, he simply replied "that is what it costs", no further breakdown was given.
Alex then ensures that this will include a solution of the problem and is not just treating the symptoms (spoiler alert: which of course was not the case).
Plumber proceeds with replacing the cast iron line (uses the wrong fitting, so future leakage is not prevented with that) and then requests another $2,500 to preasure wash the line, at which point I canceled any and all of the future interactions with them.
Alex has not only not detected what the real problem was (old sewer pipe that needs to be sealed, because it is no longer connected to an old sewage system), which he overlooked, because he didn't properly do his camera inspection.
He was also unwilling to write up a report or share the details of his camera inspection. He further was unable to explain the pricing behind his quotes, although Mr. Rooter promises to work with modular pricing and full price transparency. Upon requesting to talk to his superior, Alex proceeded to hang up on me.
I have since worked with a different company, which was competent and could solve the problem.
If you are reading this, I highly recommend to think twice whether you are booking Mr. Rooter, it was hands-down the worst plumbing experience in the last 10 years. Absolutely not recommend.
- Massively overpriced
- Lack of competence
- Lack of communication skills
- Inability to take accountability

Google Shadowbans Honest reviews
Would give 5 stars for service and workmanship, but their approach to pricing is unacceptable and excessive.
Big thanks to Ty, my service tech, he was great. None of my comments relate to his level of service and professionalism, I'd be happy to have him out again, but not under Mr Rooters pricing structure.
I called and asked for 'best case scenario' pricing to have a sump pump replaced and was told that they could not provide a price until a service tech reviewed the issue for a service fee, fine, fifty at least seemed reasonable. To my surprise however after a few minutes of reviewing the system I was shown four predefined sump pump options that Mr Rooter offers preloaded on an iPad. For everyone's reference, at this point in time they are: 1 pump replacement: ~$950, 1 pump + monitor: ~$1500, 2 pump (primary and backup): ~$1850, 2 pumps with battery backup: ~$3200. If these are known 'base' prices why not simply share that up front during the initial call?
Going in I knew I wanted a dual pump backup system an had I known their pricing I wouldn't have even made an appointment. Unfortunately for me the weather forecast contained an environment Canada 'Yellow Warning' for a week of rain starting the next day. I reluctantly went ahead with the two pump solution since I didn't have time to shop around.
I'm confident that the workmanship and product quality are great, but it's pretty ridiculous that they charge for two full sump pump installations when it is definitely not double the work to install a second pump in tandem with the first during a single appointment. Knowing these pumps cost roughly ~$400 retail (max), that's a $1000 installation fee for a ~1-2 hour job. I didn't realize I was hiring a PHD plumber.
Anyway, I would have been a repeat customer but I feel taken advantage of. I have no idea why they couldn't have just been honest up front during the initial call to tell me their pricing options since they are obviously pretty standard unless they find other obvious problems.
Hope this review helps others and Mr Rooter fixes it's pricing structure. Good work, sketchy business practices.

My experience with Mr. Rooter Services
My technical Lee had an opening before our scheduled appointment and he contacted me to see if we could change our appointment time. This was great for me because it was an earlier time. When he arrived in the company vehicle, he asked if it was okay to park in my driveway instead of assuming. He got out of the vehicle dressed in his company's uniform and introduced himself and confirmed that I was the person he had spoken to earlier. He listened to me as I explained the problem and the things that I had done to try and resolve my issue. He quickly diagnosed what the problem was and gave me an estimate of what it would cost (they do have military discounts). Once I agreed to the price, he immediately started fixing my problem and informing me of the process every step of the way. Once the job was completed, he cleaned up his work area, provided me with follow up instructions for further maintenance and my invoice. Lee and the executive assistant that set up my appointment were very professional, courteous and went the extra mile to ensure that I was satisfied with the work order. I would definitely call them again and recommend them to others

It has been 3 years since I hired them…
It has been 3 years since I hired them for a plumbing problem— water was getting into my basement and after being charged almost $10,000 and their excavation destroying my yard, the basement still leaks badly; they gave me 5 year warranty and they won’t honor that or finish their job. They won’t return my calls or texts.

Don’t expect follow-up
The initial service technician (Keenan) was nice enough to begin with, even handing over the job to another (Jordan) when he went on vacation, but don’t expect anything once the service is completed! We needed detailed billing for insurance, and insurance even called and discussed this with them.
Three weeks goes by and nothing. Then a couple more weeks go by, followed by a promise of getting it to insurance. Nothing after a week, then another promise. Once again it produces nothing, till the office is finally contacted and they had no clue we needed it… almost as if they were never told. You would expect better.

DON'T USE MR. ROOTER LOCATED IN PERU, IL
Written for J. Grey. The nightmare started in March 2025 with Mr. Rooter out of Peru, Illinois. I had my house on the market at this time in Earlville, IL. I had a problem with the sewer line and they came out and said it was roots in the sewer line that could not be cleaned out, a 6ft pipe would need to be replaced. Cost of $6,500.00. Full payment was made which they insisted.
A few days later I was told additional 30ft pipe would need to be replaced. Cost of $25,000.00, I paid in full, insisted by them. Mr. Rooter came out in March 2025 and dug a 10-15 ft wide trench. While trenching- they mangled the water line (had to have city come shut my water off), hit the neighbors garage leaving damage. I asked again for invoice.
We were told by Mr. Rooter- all good, inspected (they did the inspection). Hole was covered by dirt, middle of April 2025. I asked again for invoice.
April 25, 2025- I had mud coming up in the basement drains. I called Mr. Rooter and they were sending a manager and inspector on May 5, 2025- they did not show up. Mud still coming up.
I had to take my house off the market. Water was still shut off.
During this time of no water, I had a pond with over 40 Koi fish, some very large. The pond needed water after the winter so the pump would run. I lost over half my Koi fish and gave away the rest so they would not die.
No show by Mr. Rooter on May 16, 2025. Mud still coming up in basement drains.
Between May 17th and May 21st, they came out and dug 10-to-15-foot trench, Mr. Rooter admitted the new pipe that was installed by them did not get attached to the existing pipe before the hole was covered by dirt. It was inspected by them????
June 9, 2025- July 8, 2025. Same. Trench with pipe sitting on the ground. I sent pictures to Mr. Rooter
After July 8, 2025- Mr. Rooter must had fixed it, the hole was covered with dirt. Mr. Rooter said all good, inspected, had video of the inspection. (they will not send us) Still needed a copy of the invoice.
July 19, 2025- I put the house back on the market- water was turned on by city.
April 15, 2026- I had a contract for the sale of my house. The potential buyer had a sewer inspection done and it did not pass the inspection. The buyer would not go forward.
April 21, 2026- (had to take day off work) Met with the supervisor from Mr. Rooter, he performed a camera inspection and said “yes” there is a problem. He met with the neighbor about the damage to her place and assured her they would fix it along with bringing in a load of dirt to level the large area where they had dug. He took pictures of everything.
April 28, 2026- Mr. Rooter said the pipe was full of mud because when the pipe was reattached, they did not clean it out. Mr. Rooter said good to go after they flushed the pipe. Camera inspection no signs of any issues. Asked again for the invoice.
May 3, 2026- I had my 2nd contract for the sale of my house. The potential buyer had a sewer inspection done on May 11, 2026 and it did not pass. The buyer would not go forward. The inspection completed by the potential buyer showed gravel in the pipe, pipe not attached (space in pipe). We have copy of it.
May 11, 2026- Called Mr. Rooter. No call back. No copy of invoice. No copy of their inspection. I can’t sell my house, my neighbors garage is not fixed.
